Looking at a piper pa22/20 Pacer. No engine, had an O-320 Lycoming 150 hp… found this engine… ok to install it? Don’t know how to research and verify… somebody know off the top of your head? Much obliged, dan

Ok, found out airplane had an O320 A2A or A2B installed originally, what would be involved w getting to be able to install an E2A version of the O320?? Thanks

IIRC mounts are different. Possibly a Short Wing guru may chime in.

First, the PA20 and PA22 have separate TCs. And the PA20 only shows an O-235 or O-290 by variant. The PA22 has more options with the O-235, O-290, and O-320 depending on variant. However there are additional engine options list as well in the noted as shown below. However, the -E2A engine variant shows up nowhere in those TCDS. So outside of Lycoming providing a conversion for the -E2A to one of the listed engine options approved for your specific aircraft, it would take an STC to either install the -E2A on the PA20 or PA22, or, an STC to convert the -E2A to one of the approved PA-22 engines. If that makes sense.

The A2A and A2B are conical mount engines. The E2A is a dynafocal mount engine. You're going to have more money into trying to make an E2A work than it is worth, even if there is an STC.

A2B engines were used in quite a few different things. Finding one shouldn't be too hard.

Word to the wise on a PA22/20 conversion. If the guy that did the conversion didn’t get the gear lugs mounted correctly the airplane will be a handful on takeoff and landing. Gear alignment is critical.

And a PA22/20 falls under a PA22 TCDS.
