The recommended Bill of Sale form has been pdf for a lot longer, probably because, while official, it was not required.

"THAT" form may not be required, because the FAA will except a hand written bill of sale if it meets their requirements.
    Years ago they would not.

Even today, it's silly not to use it and take the risk of having some clerk at the Registry question it. Even the complicated deals typically call for its use in the contract. The same for the FAA security agreement - the bank will create its own security agreement but also use the the FAA one for recording purposes.

    Complete Aircraft Records - $35

If you are interested in only viewing the aircraft registration and airworthiness documents on file with FAA, this is the service for you. The aircraft registration documents will show all documents that have been filed with the FAA for the aircraft, including all Bills of Sale, Applications for Registration, Liens, Lien Releases, etc. The airworthiness documents will show all 337s (repairs and alterations) that have been filed with the FAA for the aircraft.

This service is sooooo good... I was able to track the history of my airplane from the day it left the factory... all liens and lien releases and all bills of sale and applications for registrations... GREAT SERVICE....worth every penny!

Plane is locked in a trailer. It's not going to get out and screw anyone over.

While I have no issue with your approach whatsoever, I can dream up liability situations. some kids could steal it, put it together, try to fly in a school field, kill themselves and a bunch of other childrens. Oh the humanity.

Ridonkulous! I suppose I should acquire liability insurance on my power tools, my bicycle, my BB gun and my wife as well, just in case of stupid thieves?

I actually was directing this at the comment that insurance was optional. Still, insure it!

You DO have that; read your homeowner's policy.

Home owners policy? I live in a box truck in the dessert. You find me someone who will write that policy.

Regarding the bill of sale. Sent the link to the original owner so that he can fill it out again, I can file it with the FAA and correct the ownership record there. It's sad to watch a dream die, but I think it is time to pass her on to a pilot who will fly her.

Not quite. Depends on the state and the policy. Which is why I have an umbrella policy.
