I've noticed that I've been wasting a lot of fuel lately by taking off with the mixture full forward. I was thinking about saving some money by taking off lean of peak; not sure why nobody has thought of this technique previously.

Forget LOP take offs. I’m going to save money by skipping inspections and doing less training. And aviation oil is expensive! Switching to peanut oil. With a smoke point of 440 degrees, I should be good to go!

Peanut oil is the poor man's smoke oil? My friends would be jealous when I'm laying smoke in the pattern.

Runups, setting radios, waiting for other traffic to land, all use fuel and cost money, better done in the air.

It’s one thing to lean to best power on takeoff, quite another to lean past peak to LOP.

What if it's just me with half fuel surrounded by fields and I limit the engine to 65% power?

Mechanics love this idea. In fact, they love people who run lean of peak in cruise too!

LOP on takeoff only works if you zoom climb.

Can't I make airplane noises and get spit on the windshield on takeoff?

Turn off the engine once positive rate of climb. Helps with the fuel flow.

How much money can you save by doing this? Not worth the couple of dollars.
If you have to nickel and dime aviation, take up golf. You can be cheap and stay alive.
