First, we sorta frown upon joining our community and then immediately asking for money.

Second, are you not able to maintain adequate employment to help create and add to a training fund?

Third, if you are employed, why not find additional employment (2nd and third job) to accelerate the additions to the training fund?

you seem to have a lot of goals listed. well, you know, except paying for stuff.

Hmmm.... sensing a bit of a pattern. This and the two others I found that came on this year and asked us to "go fund them", all stated military service.....

One would think that have 17 years of military experience, you'd be pretty resourceful to do well and be advanced up the ranks. And such talent and drive could be applied to earning money and/or living on a very restricted budget. Crowdfunding shouldn't be needed.

Welcome to the forum, yours is a usual request on this board. Hope you have more luck than previous posters. Most on this forum did it the hard way,by working and paying their way. Good luck.

Oh boy again....hahaha...If you have to ask for funds for training, how do you expect to keep funding to fly once accomplished?

He'll be spending OPM for the rest of his life.

Leech. Sucking the blood from productive members of society.

As you know you can fund flight training through the VA/Army benefits. Asking others to foot the bill for you is shameful. If flying is really that important to you then make sacrifices like everyone else.

Amen. Make cutbacks in your monthly spending and get a 2nd job. Stop panhandling.

1) Clint, find a flight school that maintains their planes better. The Cessna in the photo has a flat nose strut. Perhaps you're pointing that out to your son.

2) While I applaud your admirable goals, asking for money from strangers is not exactly an admirable means of raising money. Consider joining CAP. You may not necessarily be able to do your private training with CAP, but you may get access to aircraft and instructors. Military experience is valued in that organization.

3) I'll really be happy when this crowd funding trend goes away. Before long, it will go the way of the Nigerian scam or the chain letter. But not soon enough...

Nobody else is seeing scam the way I do?

CAP doesn't allow private pilot training for adults. And airplane costs for a late model CAP 182 are comparable to 172N wet rates in the community. AFTER going through a year of qualification.

While military service is valued, freeloading isn't. Only a fool would join CAP only to fly the airplane. There are much easier and less constrained ways, like getting a second job.

You got that right.

Clint, I find it difficult to understand why you can't find another school that offers a degree completion program that's acceptable to the VA. I have several within driving distance to my house and already have been approved for benefits. If you can't find one suitable for VA rembursment, with 17 yrs of Army service, you're making more than enough to pay for a Part 61 PPL. I did it 20 yrs ago as an E-3 and only 3 yrs in the military. It's about making priorities.

The interesting thing to me is that all the people that come here asking for money - it usually always their first post. And they never seem to post again.

Maybe they were slammed too hard.. or maybe they scammed... Who knows. Still though, it's great early morning reading :)

Noticed that as well.

Like the rule that you must have so many posts before you can include a picture, the MC can update the terms of conduct to say "You must participate in XX conversations before asking the community for money".

Or never at all. I would be fine with changing the TOS that soliciting money for personal flight training, flying, etc. is prohibited. Might take away all the fun of bashing these folks, though.

Gentlemen,

First I want to apologize for any violation of etiquette. I would like to say that it's not easy for me to ask for anything, and I apologize for going about it the wrong way. I never thought of posting the request in a forum setting like this until a friend (Private pilot) suggested it.

I am not a serial beggar, panhandler or bum. My phone number is listed below. If anyone would like to discuss this any further, or has advice, I'm always open to dialogue.

This approach is not something I took lightly or took for granted. I researched the crowd funding method for raising money and found that many legitimate people had success, and continued to "pay it forward" once they reached their goals.

I'd like to explain a few things that might clear up any misconceptions anyone has:

My daughter has started college. I have transferred the remainder of my Post 911 GI Bill benefits to her so that she can focus on school and won't be forced to take out a bunch of student loans.

With that said, I help her financially as much as I can. I also lose a large portion of my paycheck to child support for my son. Which I don't mind, but further reduces my disposable income.

Secondly, I have three years until I retire from the Army. My goal is to complete my PPL and use the remaining GI bill that isn't allocated to my daughter to fund Instrument, Commercial and CFI training before I retire so I can build enough hours to become a flight instructor upon retirement. I have an extremely unstable schedule at work that includes a lot of travel, short notice training events and long days. my intent is to take a couple of weeks off to train in an accelerated 2-3 week PPL course.

Once again. I totally respect any and all grievances with my post. if there is a consensus, I will gladly remove it.

I also respect those who have taken their lumps and paid their dues. While I've not taken those same lumps, I have graduated a few other schools of hard knocks.

I am not trying to take a short cut, I'm merely trying to play "catch up".

Wow what a difference a day makes. OP had 7 responses in 4 hours. Today, 4 hours and zero responses. I guess everybody is tired.

Naw....

BTDT.... No one wants to fund someone who forgot to save funds to play with...

We all got stories. I spent my time in the big green machine, worked two jobs, took night class for pre-med, put two kids through college with no loans, etc. Whine, whine, whine.

I also don't think you grasp the concept of 'pay it forward' while asking for money for your hobby on a website. Others who want to pay it forward for you would already have sent you a check, notwithstanding your grovelling.

*Puts student loan jar away, backs away slowly.* :D

:lol::lol:..:rofl:..

Personally . I would not sweat it.... Next election cycle, the politicians will pass a student loan amnesty program and wipe out all your debt.. All ya got to do is vote for them to stay in office...

Us old farts with assets will get the bill...:mad2::mad2::mad2:...

I'm not going to fault Clint for trying although I knew exactly what kind of reception he would get when I saw the post.

On another note, I had never heard of Clarksburg, WV until about a month ago. Nice scenery, but antennas growing out of every hilltop!

that's funny, I went to the casino just past Charleston WV last weekend (to pad my airplane fund) and noticed how many antennas/towers there were on every hilltop as well. hoping to be able to fly into CRW eventually, cut my travel time in half at least.

Now that is much better. Y'all had me worried.

Hello, My name is Clint. I'm an aspiring pilot in training. I assure you I am not a scammer or have any dishonorable intentions. I'm merely seeking assistance in accomplishing my dream.

In lieu of flying, Id suggest a crack habit it's much cheaper and all you need is a cardboard sign and some cammo to fund it. Its also easier to kick the habit.

This should Segway into the trapp family singing "climb every mountain , till you find your dream"

Clint, have you considered getting a loan for yourself? If you don't want your daughter to have loan payments, then why don't you get a loan? You seem like a OK guy, but no one will help you pay for a high-priced hobby. You will need to pay for this sir, one way or the other.

Good luck.
