Weird that it hit the fuselage, and not the upper part of the tail.

Would there be any indications of the strike on the flight instruments or avionics?

Good question.

As the article mentioned, the metal tube is a Faraday cage that electrically isolates and protects all that is within. But there are antennas that are outside the tube, and they are obviously connected to the radios inside, so I don't know what happens to the avionics.

Struck once in a C-141, once in a C-130. Minor damage on the horizontal tail skin surface on the Starlifter. Didn't find any damage on the C-130, but it was kinda beat up after 30+ years anyway, so it was hard to tell. . .

Did they take off after that

The guy videoing did not even realize it until looking at the video later that the lightning hit the 737. They departed 2 hrs late, probably wx and not due to the strike. I'd say it has been inspected closely by now.

One dark and stormy night I was driving an empty gas truck. Lightning hit the truck. The sudden flash of light with instantaneous thunder scared the holy ned out of me.

No damage to the truck, seat or my drawers.

Saw this on the news this morning, and also wondered about what it did to teh avionics. I know they are designed to withstand lightning strikes, but that one has me wondering.
