Friends -

We're scheduled to fly the Cessna 182 to Las Vegas on Saturday, September 5. Return trip on Monday September 7.

With the weather as blazing hot as it has been, I'm concerned about leaving the plane parked on the transient ramp for three days. Does anyone know of hangar space (single or community) that can accommodate a 182 for that weekend? If so, please PM me.

Thanks!

I am curious what your concern is? There are 182s sitting on the ramp for decades in the SW and they are still fine. I think putting the windshield shade is sufficient to protect the plane.

Probably just paranoia on my part -- and a preference not to have my upholstery and avionics baking in 100+ degree sun.

I recently went to Laughlin / Bullhead City, and called ahead to the airport FBO to see what they offered. $45 a night in the large FBO hanger for my Tecnam P2010

Recommend you call the FBO(s).

Welcome to summer?

Get some sun shades for at least the front windshield. The plane and avionics will survive.

I fly from Chicago to Phoenix fairly often and had the same concerns cause of the heat. First 3 trips I paid for a hangar. Then locals pretty much told me I was paranoid and wasting money paying for a hangar in the south west. The last 3 years now I've parked on the ramp for 1-2 weeks at a time in the blazing Phoenix sun, with no ill effect. Totally get the paranoia though, cause I had it too lol.

Agree that calling the FBO is the right move to figure out options. Or maybe some place has a sun shade structure, if the direct sun is what you're really concerned about. Let us know what ya pick! I'd like to fly there soon.

Closing the loop on this...

Both Henderson and North Las Vegas have shade overhangs available for daily rent. Booked one for Henderson, so we're good to go.

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Unless your aircraft is pointing north, that shade hangar is only going to keep the rain off. Facing south in the shade hangars gets the sun through the windshield in the worst part of the day. (25yrs in LAS)

Good to know. It was, indeed, facing north.
