Although in most other categories (revenue, pax flown, miles flown, fleet size, number of destinations) the US majors are at the top of the list, this list is interesting. I would never have guessed that Turkish Airlines would be at the top. Though I guess Turkey's geographic location is at play here.

The problem is that flying through Istanbul can lead to extra security scrutiny at US airports for a period of time afterward.

Yeah, I’d think geography has a ton to do with it. Treat US states like countries and the US majors would rack up a bunch of data points quickly.
