Flew out to Lake Mead last weekend and over Hoover damn. Take a look at how green the desert is out here in Northern Arizona/So. Nevada. And the butterflies..forgetaboutit. They are everywhere! I clean the plane, and takeoff alone places about 2 dozen dead (big yellow) butterflies all over the windshield.
BTW, If you plan on flying into Laughlin/Bullhead anytime soon. Be advised that the FBO down the hill has been demolished for a supermarket. No more taxiing on hotel 5 miles downhill. You now must take taxiway Charlie or delta and park up by the terminal. I doubt any publications have this info as of yet.

Those are great pics - but um... it's Hover Dam not Hoover Damn - that is, unless you really don't like it. :)

Nice pics, Michael. Too bad about the FBO .. that was one of the cool things about flying to Laughlin.

Agreed. You could walk across the street and catch the boat to cross the river to the casinos. No longer. Now they will call a shuttle for you, But I have seen people waiting along time for that shuttle.

Here are a few additional views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and environs, most taken in the last couple of months.

Looks like the water level hasn't risen much from the last time I was there about a year or two ago.

It takes a LOT of time for something as large as Lake Mead. It actually has risen quite a bit in terms of volume but doesn't show much in relative rise.

The real increase will come as the snows in the Rockies start melting. We're already filling up a lot of our reservoirs here in AZ. Several that were considered 'critical' (below 20%) are full now. We're looking at a pretty good summer for water reserves.

We have a lake here in San Diego that they said would take years to fill, after our first big rain this winter. It is now overflowing the dam.

I believe Lake Mead is about the Size of San Diego :)

It definitely is large, that's for sure. It's one of the few lakes that I can actually get lost on if it's cloudy out and I don't have a compass. Very confusing with some of the different coves, islands, etc., once you get back in there a ways.

"They" said that about Lake Shasta during the drought of 1977. Filled it in one winter when the rains returned.

I loved flying over Lake Mead. I miss it sometimes.

Someday, I need to go back out and fly around the Havasu/Bullhead/Kingman area again.

I mostly learned to fly in Kingman.

The FBO at IFP was still there in late 2004, the bulldozers must have pulled in after my last flight there!

Wow. A thread resurrected after four years. This might be a new record.

Man, it's been a long time since you've been to Bullhead, it's been that way for 2 or 3 years. That Sam's Club where the FBO used to be.
Did you go to Temple Bar and eat?
