KX200 - Slide in KX155/KX165 replacement

Also, the auto dimming function does not work when retrofitted into a KX-155 tray. You have to run through the programming menus to change the brightness.
Does this mean that every time you need to dim the display, you have to get into the programming menu?

That is what I read. I am using it as my backup radio now, so it just sits there, unused. I need to sit down in the plane and try to figure it out.

I'm getting my KX-155s overhauled one at a time right now. I'll go back to two KX-155's & keep it for a later panel upgrade. The KX-200 tray is supposed to be released this fall.

Wow. So they released the radio, but not the tray for it? Is there any way to fix the brightness issue later if you do a simple swap out for a KX-155?

From what I have read in the manual, those features are available only in the KX200 tray.
From a marketing point of view, I get the delayed tray release date. They are marketing this as a drop-in for the 155. If you want to install a new radio & tray, there are other products out there that are better and I don't think cost as much. Their niche is "pull out your bad KX155 and slap this bad boy in". Now that you own the radio, you can buy a tray and make it a better install later when you fix the rest of your panel.
They needed to get the radio to market to take advantage of the quick fix opportunity. The opportunity was never to install these in new panels. They put their engineering & certification efforts into what could yield cash now.

Who is overhauling your KX-155s?

That makes sense... But I'm not gonna swap it out if the brightness is that messy to deal with.

BK, as usual, is very good at failing.

When I first got my current plane, it had an older kx-155. I started having screen issues and was able to get a very late model SN replacement, going strong. Yeah I know, late model is still old.

I’d consider this if a true ‘slide-in’, and reviews are good.
