My current King KX-155 has an isolation amplifier, if I am looking to do a slide in replacement with one that doesn't have this, can I use one that without harming anything?

Thanks

Hello,

I am in the exact same situation - did you ever figure this out?

My panel is just the single kx155 with a simple PS Engineering Inc PM1000II audio switcher.

Thanks!

The isolation amplifier provides an amp to drive a speaker, as well as internal summing for multiple audio sources. Some of the pins in the isolation version are used for other things in other versions. I’d presume that given your intercom and lack of audio panel, it’s probably wired up to use the isolation amp so I’d think swapping to a different version without some rewiring might not work well.

Agreed. So many want to hold onto old tech. Still trying to figure out why.
Check the "Avionics shop nightmare" thread.
Some people prefer flying their planes instead of having them stuck in maintenance hell for a year.

I repaired the KX-155 in my CAP-10. $400 versus a new radio and install.

Long term plan is to go to a GNC-355 for GPS and com
