Holy overreaction, Batman.

Dave, is your youngest niece still there?

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- Police arrested five students after a food fight during lunchtime at Portage High School.

The teens were led from the school in handcuffs Tuesday after yogurt and taco salad flew across the cafeteria.

Nieces all gragidated from HS. Two are contemplating their position in the space/time continuum while closely examining their navel. One is inbetween semesters in nursing school. On track to graduate next Spring. Going for PP check ride in next week or two (fingers crossed).

I will pass this on!

Best,

Dave

Just wait until they apply for a job and have to answer "have you ever been convicted of a ..." Should make an interesting story to explain this away.

Hard to believe childhood has vanished. While I would agree some punishment is in order, POLICE!?!? EXCUSE ME!
I say the principal needs replacing. She doesn't know how to CORRECTLY deal with children.

Should be charged with felonies, that will teach them for wasting food.

Well, if it's like the crap I've eat'n w/my kids in the last 2yrs........it'd be better on the floor than plug'n the toilets.

Dumba$$'s should make them clean it up after school, but no.......put them in jail. jail never scared me when I was a kid(didn't happen often), but to clean a kitchen...............that would suck.

People can't see the dang forrest cause of the trees anymore. And........where is that dang paddle!!! Worked back then......it'll work now. :mad3:

You mean like the food those starving children in Africa could have? ;) As a friend of mine used to say to his mother when she said that "Let 'em come over here and eat it off my plate".

Seriously, this was school cafeteria food. Many folks would not call it edible. ;)

It's more of that "zero tolerance" crap. If they'd been the way they are now when I grew up, 80% of my high school would have been in jail. As it turns out, most of the folks I went to school with are now well respected professionals.....

More indoctrinating kids to be sheeple when they grow up. (sigh). Where's Bluto and Otter when you need them!

The food fights we had a Villanova were an art form. On Halloween people wore full nautical rain gear in order to avoid the rotten eggs, food, liquids, etc. In the "Pie Shop" the tables would be turned on their side as barricades as food, deserts, and pies would fly. Remember the Three Stooges pie fights? Yeah, like that. After I graduated they banned Halloween food fights and would take meal tickets if this occured. They also banned the Cats Eye, university sponsored keg parties the same year. Morons. :frown2:

Nobody can have any fun anymore. :mad3:

Heck, at least one of the radio stations that our company owned had awesome food fights at certain management meetings.

Server brings a basked of rolls. "Hey look! Ammo!" And so it begins again.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction to me. Our food fights were legendary -- especially on days when they served hamburgers. Those buns were so hard that they could be considered deadly weapons.

Yeah. You ever wonder why kids are shooting each other now? Because we throw 'em in jail for letting off a little steam in a harmless food fight.

I don't know whether it's that people without any common sense are drawn to be "educators" or if getting a degree in "education" simply knocks all the common sense out of anyone that goes through it, but damn, those people as a group make the worst decisions I have ever seen in my whole life.

Wow!! I am glad I pulled my kid from public brain washing to be a sheep school..

I don't know whether the children in Wisconsin are less dangerous than the ones in the Bronx, but we had a food fight that was broken up by school security staff and the students were sent back to their classrooms. The fight resumed in a classroom, boiled out into the halls, boiled out into the streets and 2 students were injured severely. That is the day I acquired a switchblade knife that had fallen to the ground. Many cops, 2 ambulances, lots of distraction.

I think there are so caught in a Kobiashi Maru situation that they over react. If they had let the food fight continue then there would have been a bunch of people screaming at them that they did not deal with a potentially violent situation and would point at what Peggy posted as the worst case outcome of their inaction. So instead they do the safe legal thing and clamp down hard on ANY behavior that deviates from the norm.

This is not new. When I was in HS school in the 1970's one of the band guys stood on a table in the cafeteria and played Hey jude on trumpet. He was suspended for two days. I myself got in trouble for taking my biology project to the cafeteria. We were disecting cats and I had mine on a tray looking like lunch. It grossed a few people out and I get a letter sent home to mom about my "anti-social" behavior. PLEASE!

Had to serve three detentions too.

On the other hand, the proliferation of overprotective and highly vocal parents has pushed them pretty hard in that direction too. :frown2:

Sounds like your high school was fun. We only got to disect frogs. And, how did they tell the difference between that cat and a typical school lunch? :D You must have told them.

Freshman Biology we dissected fetal pigs. It was not until you were a senior that you could take the elective of advanced bio and it was there that you go to dissect a cat. Not everyone took that course, only about 10 seniors a year out of a class of 600.

Our Sr. year was mostly filled with advanced elective courses. Itwas great as you got to work on things that you were interested in or needed for college. I took that course and a whole bunch of other things I was interested in.

I would have preferred cat than the stuff they served in my high school. Tastes like chicken. :D

Yeah, but I bet it was worth it. ;)

At a brokerage firm I was at, everyone walked about in the morning with their cup of coffee or tea. I was a tea drinker. I used a clear glass and one kind of apple spice tea was reddish. On occasion, just to break up the boredom, I would substitute a Tampax for the tea bag. Got real interesting when I would ask someone if I could put something in their trash can and slowly pulled the string to remove it from my tea.

But, no one ever called the cops!

Best,

Dave

As a whole, indeed, they are less dangerous. Not that there isn't one in the group that could snap.
