Okay, hear me out.

If you don't have kids and/or live under a rock, it's an animated movie that has been the #1 most popular thing on Netflix for a few weeks months.

This is easily the best thing I've seen in years. I know I'm late to the party. I resisted watching it purely because it's so big. The kids started watching it tonight (again), and i sat down out of curiosity. After about 10min, I said, "let's wait until we can all watch this together on the big screen with the big stereo". I'm definitely not the target audience, but it's effing great. When's the last time you saw something original and creative and totally unique? Well worth the 90 minutes or whatever it is.

My kids and nieces have been talking about this. I've had no interest but now I guess I'm going to give it a shot

That's what they said about the Minecraft movie too.........
We watched that last weekend. I fell asleep about 20m in.

I see that Psy the Rapper is still active. Haven't heard anything from him lately.

Not the style of music i normally listen to but that “Golden” song is pretty good. Heard it on the radio and Shazam’d it. They performed it live at Fallon a month ago and were good live as well, albeit in a lower key than the studio version.

Ok, doesn't look like the sort of thing I'd normally be interested in but I'm seeing it recommended by people in just about every group I'm associated with so I guess I'd better watch it.

I watched it because of this thread. I have to admit it was ok. Not great, but a solid ok.

Which is pretty high praise for a movie ever since Covid hit.

Ah man, now I'm gonna have to watch it. I'm already sick of the music thanks to my kids.

This is all your fault. :p

I feel like it started well before covid. Maybe even a decade ago. Hollywood just seems to be completely out of original ideas.

That's what hits me so hard about this movie. The idea is fresh.. yes, I'll grant you shades of Buffy and Powerpuff Girls, but the Korean culture aspect makes it feel totally new. The music is a much more saccharine and poppy than anything id normally listen to, but it's catchy. The story and pacing are super tight; there's no wasted time.

I LOVE the animation style. It's completely unique, mashing up 2d &3d, with some anime thrown in, and very often an almost claymation look and movement. I love anything Aardman puts out, and I think that visual style is what initially hooked me.

We just finished watching Squid Games, and while the second two seasons don't hold up to the first, i understand now why it was so big at the time. All of course watched on my Samsung TVs, as i type this on my Samsung tablet. The amount of creativity and inguinuity that comes out of that little half peninsula is really incredible.

Same. They were all about it this summer for sure. Kind of died off by Halloween but there was a short period when they wanted to do their costumes with the K-Pop theme.

I heard my kids watching it in the other room. Not my gig, but they loved it. We are re-watching Stranger Things as a family (again) waiting for the new season to begin. As a kid from the 80's, it's been fun re-living my childhood while watching. Pretty impressive to see period Burger King wrappers and such. The music is awesome too.
