I am in the final few days of a paint job by artist and painter John Stahr. He is featured in this months issue of EAA's Sport Aviation magazine. I have posted photos of his job on my RV-9A on my website at the below link. He paints everything from small RV's to helicopters to jetliners. I thought you might enjoy looking at him at work. I will be posting more photos in the days that come as he completes the job. Thanks.

I saw his aircraft at the show last year. Thought it a bit much myself, but no denying the guy's got talent.

WOW!

So what was the trick to removing tape....?

My paint is much simpler. It will have some art work on the tail, should be able to show those pictures tomorrow. More being posted today.

Pull it straight back, in line with the paint that was masked, flush with the skin.

So....essentially making a 180 in the tape? Keeping the pulling hand close to the surface?
Thanks!

John put in 18 hours on day 8. A few more pics posted. The plane is done but needs to be reassembled, that happens today. Final pictures including tail art to follow.

Very nice!!! I like how well the N# seems to "float" above the surface.

Guess you will be investing in some of that wax that Henning and Jay are discussing.

Thanks! John has a template for shadow N-Numbers but forgot it. He did that by hand! A few more pictures posted. The rudder needed another night to cure, don't want to mess up the tail art work by getting in a rush. Hope to have it all back together Thursday with the final pictures.

Murphy's Law of new airplane paint jobs...

The first day you fly coincides with the biggest swarm in history of insects with the gooiest insides and they all appear in your flight path

Yea, and the same as buying a new car, they only get worse!

I have posted the last photos, thanks for taking the time to look. A couple close ups of the tail art are in the posts. Glenn

Beautiful paint job and airplane. I also love the tail -- if only AA had hired him for their new livery ;)

Congratulations!
