We need to get Miss Amelia fitted for inflight wi-fi.... Jay must be having too much fund flying around Port A. to share his adventures of RV flying and playing host to his guests.

I know he is alive since Troy spent some time with him a few weeks ago.

He's here. Almost every day. Just staying mum for whatever reason.

Can't believe he didn't check in on the what beer are you drinking post.

Hi Guys!

Spike nailed it: We are back into "remodeling season" on the island, which means (while every other business owner takes a month off) I'm spending 10 hours a day laying tile, replacing plumbing fixtures, etc.

I've knocked out the Flying Tigers and Apollo rooms thus far this fall. And the end is in sight -- only eight more rooms to tile, and our five-year renovation project will be finished, and we will have successfully rebuilt this old hotel, one room at a time, from the inside out!

Which isn't to say I haven't been flying. Mary and I continue to fly Amelia every other day or so. We took an aerobatics lesson with an active duty air force instructor, and are now happily doing "gentlemen's aerobatics" over the bay.

I still read what I can, but just dont have much time to post. What little time I have, I spend at the Van's and EAA forums, as they are more focused on the kind of flying I'm doing nowadays.

Here's a video I shot three days ago, with the camera mounted on the wing facing backwards -- a somewhat unique perspective:

Here's another one I did a few weeks ago, with the camera facing forward. A nice tour of the island:

Enjoy!

Whaddat mean?

David

Rolls, wingovers, steep climbs and descents. Nothing high-G, or negative-G cuz, frankly, those maneuvers aren't much fun.

Loops will have to wait until I get time to install a shorter alternator belt, which will allow me to tuck the alternator up against the engine a bit more.

The -8 is very tightly cowled. Under G, (as in a loop), the engine sags a teensy bit, which in our plane allowed the alternator pulley to contact the cowling. We discovered this during our aerobatics lessons, when the pulley actually ground a bit of material out of the cowl. It was minor, and easily filled with a dab of J-B Weld -- but obviously until we can move the alternator up, loops are out.

BTW, the only indication we had of this happening was the smell of hot plastic during a loop which went away as soon as the maneuver was complete. Our air force instructor -- an RV-8 owner himself -- immediately knew what was causing the odor. It's apparently pretty common in RVs, one of the downsides of that gorgeously streamlined, extremely tight cowl.

When I saw Jay Spotting I thought he had been laughing too hard or something. Some will get that and some won't, it's all good.

Glad you are having fun Jay!!!
