James Garner dies at 86

He'll always be Bret Maverick to me.

"Riverboat ring your bell,
Faretheewell Annabelle,
Luck is the lady that he loves the best ...
Natchez to New Orleans,
Livin' on jacks 'n' queens,
Maverick is the legend of the West ...
Maverick is the legend of the West!"

How can I remember that when I can't remember where I left my keys five minutes ago?! :dunno:

Spent a lot of time watching James 'Jimmy' Rockford...I will miss him

Actually met him back in the early 80's, his buddy Jack Kelly was a City Councilman in Huntington Beach - Garner would often just walk in to the City Council meetings like a "normal person" and sit in the crowd. Borrowed a pen and notebook from me once, when he gave it back he told me "I think you know who I am". I said yes sir, but I figured you weren't here for the publicity.

RIP Mr Garner, they don't make them like you anymore.

Short term vs. long term memory. And that show was on when I was in early elementary school. Mom and dad watched it every week.

He did a lot of his own stunts. Was wounded twice in Korea, once by friendly fire. Married to the same woman for 57 years. One of my favorite actors. I have enjoyed many of his movies, Rockford Files is one of my favorite shows, still.

RIP Mr. Garner, and thank you for the many memories

A man from when actors were cut from a different cloth. RIP.

He claimed to have no skills, so was qualified for either acting or politics. He said he didn't want to be a politician...

You never found anything negative to read about him. Seemed to be a good guy. And from what I've read he brought along a lot of his friends as he progressed in TV and movies, mentoring them and getting them roles on his shows.

He was the type of person you even enjoyed watching in Polaroid commercials.
