Its Officially Flying Season!

For me, flying season really begins when I have an hour and a half of usable light after work. We hit that mark today. Awesomeness!
That’s great, same here. Problem is it is only 20 deg high and snow still on the ground, but clear of the hangar after today! o_O Below zero tomorrow morning. Ahhhh….hard pass!

Yeah, I flew this evening. Beautiful and 50 degrees. Tomorrow morning it is supposed to be snowing and in the 20's. So no bueno.

It is nice to see the light coming back into the evenings. I'm about done with the annual. I do them in January/February, as not flying as much this time of year.

ATL area - folks are worried about winter storm warning. It might snow (it's not going to), it might be up to 2 inches (with 50 degree ground temps anything is going to melt immediately), and severe temperatures down to 17 (I'll wear a coat).

Well, made it up today for an hour. Snow was cleared from the hangar earlier in the week. Had sun and 20 deg, no wind. Preheater worked great and with the sun hangar was a toasty 40 degs. Air was smooth as silk and the Tiger climbed like a scolded dog! Gidyup!

I'm flying power about once a month during the winter. Storms and wind these last two weeks have kept me on the ground.
We unpack the hangar the first weekend in April. Soaring season soon follows.

We still have ice patches everywhere here and I'm not risking it. Haven't flown since middle of December so it needs to happen soon. Over the cold...

I haven't been able to fly since Jan 7th. There is so much ice and snow in front of my hangar that it would take 3 people min to get it out and in. And I even plowed the apron in front of my hangar the other day and there is still 3" of solid ice in front of the hangar door. The door is probably froze to the ground.
Last winter was pretty bad but I think this winter is worse.
This coming week it going to melt some, but it is going to take weeks or a month or more to melt.
It's snowing now again.

Unfortunately for those of us in the northeast snow corridor, flying season doesn't start until I have time to shovel out the foot of snow and remove the inch of ice blocking my hangar doors. :(

The longer days sure help, but the sun is still at a very low angle here at Latitude 48
