It is September 11 in Afghanistan.

Pardon me, your casual banter is somewhat offensive to the worried mother of an honorable, courageous, and patriotic young man.

He chose to go to a crazy place. Mom is worried. Normal.

(Lots of that in the history books.)

Not sure what's offensive about me saying we all make our choices and live with the risks and rewards. Them's just the facts, ma'am.

Sorry you're worried. Not much I can do from here other than say that. Won't change it anyway. Moms worry. Dads worry too.

I have made no judgements about whether or not it was a good choice or a bad choice. And I have not called out anyone's honor, courage, or patriotism. I said it was a choice.

Since you brought it up, it would appear from facts in evidence that you raised a boy with enough courage to sign up for a job over there. That's about all I can say with any certainty. That's pretty impressive. Anyone who says that wouldn't scare them is a liar or a sociopath. Scares the bejeebus out of me.

Probably enough honor to stick out his commitment too. That's a guess until its all finished. Facts not yet fully in evidence, as Wayne would say. ;)

Patriotism, requires discussion on why we're there, which leads to politics and SZ. Not going there.

If you read anything else into my reply, I assure you, it's not in my words. Or in my head. Nothing here to get offended over.

He's your pride and joy. I would be sad with you if he's hurt over there. But my objective opinion is that contractors don't have to go.

If I could snap my fingers and send him home to you safely, I would, Peg. He'd probably be really ****ed at me if I did that, too. :)

Keep worrying and praying. If it makes ya feel better to be angry at me, no skin off my nose. Fire at will.

Sometimes you earn the right to be angry with whoever's in range, when life creates circumstances where your son chooses to go to Afghanistan. I understand.

If I think up any brilliant ways to stop Wars from happening, or Americans being involved in them, I'll make sure you're the first person I call. :(

Meanwhile, don't be offended. I had no intent to harm you or him and have said nothing here to do so. He took a job and is seeing it through. No dishonor in that.

And mom's gonna worry until he's home. Speaks volumes about mom's character too.

Peggy I'm sure your son will be fine. Life for govt contactors while a bit harsh is realitively safe. The vast majority of the people that go there never see enemy conflict up close. He'll actually be somewhat bored with the daily routine. It's basically Groundhog Day for however many days you're there and then you go home. Eat, sleep, fly, then rotate back to the States. :)

I agree with the guys saying try not to worry too much. I'm still deployed right now and my family is worried (you'd think they'd be used to it after 13 years of AD and countless deployments). He'll be ok, keep telling yourself that and he'll be home before you know it.

Flying outta BAF?

Flying outta BAF?

Nope, back in the gulf. Total cush "deployment" - it just feels like a TDY to the ****tiest place imaginable. I probably shouldn't have said "deployed", but that's what they tell us it is.
