Is turbulence bad for airframe or engine?

I spent 3 hours in constant light to moderate chop and a 20kt headwind. It wasn’t much fun. That said, is there anything to be considerate of when flying in choppy conditions for awhile at a time? Is it harder on the airframe or engine?

Slow it down. Climb or descend to smoother air. As long as you’re below the yellow arc on airspeed, you and your passengers are gonna suffer more than the plane. Full wx brief and pay attention to PIREPS and you’ll avoid the worst of it. Usually!
 
I just like to fly fast and get it over with, lol. Keeping it in the green. About 30 minutes into a 1 hour flight an engine out seemed like a viable alternative to putting up with turbulence but alas we pressed on…
 
Some airplanes have been known to suffer airframe fatigue in turbulence. AD 2012-10-04 addresses wing spar cracking in Cessna 210s, and the AD demands reporting of results if cracking is found, and whether the airplane was flown in low-level applications (where turbulence is often worse).

When operating within the design limits of the equipment the answer to the question "Is it harder on the airframe or engine?" is 'The People Onboard'. The airframe and engine are well engineered for turbulence.
 
If you are in the envelope, then no.

Slow to maneuver if it gets past light.
 
Turbulence is bad for the people inside after having lunch at Taco Bell...

As others have said...slow down. If it is more than moderate turbulence, keep wings level and accept altitude variations.
 
I imagine that’s what Va is for and that’s for full use of your ailerons.
 
Repeated turbulence is not good for an airframe. Airframes used in applications where they experience turbulence often see a decrease in airframe life.
