Is a built in 406 ELT worth installing?

handheld 406 vs.
trusty old 121 vs.
tracking devices like spot vs.
???

Seems like lots of folks are just leaving the old 121 elt in the plane. Thats what I currently have in both our planes.

Is a built in 406 ELT worth the premium over a portable ELT?
What do you use or prefer?

A portable ELT is largely pointless. At this points the false alarms on these are as bad or worse then at the old TSOc90 Elts ever where. If you want the highest guarantee of SARSAT location, get a properly installed 406 ELT.
