Not sure, it'll be exempted as 'art' or something. If UFCer A beats UFCer B into a coma it's not an OSHA issue either.

FEMA has protocols on testing saferooms. They fire a saboted 2x4 from a compressed air cannon at 200mph. It goes straight through unreinforced concrete block wall. I doubt a helmet is going to do much good in a real flying debris impalement.

I'm just amazed that TWC gets away with being so sexist. They never put any of the hot weather babes out in the storms, in wet shirts and with skirts blowing up...

Still have power here in Sarasota...the tree that was a sapling when we bought the house in 2007 has unfortunately bit the dust...wind gusts probably in the 50-60 mph range now

With the weakening of the storm, the dire forecasts about the storm surge are being scaled back. Tampa Bay will see quite limited impact from coastal flooding, they still have wind and overland flooding fom the rain.

Just flew American into KATL this afternoon. Gusting 30 from the east according to the captain. A little side to side rocking during the landing but actually pretty standard. His plane is a little heavier than mine, though.

Changing the subject from this Jim Cantore lovefest:

On a positive note, I went to Atlanta GA to Fat Mat Rib Shack. I use to eat there many years ago, it's just as good as I remembered it:

Where is that? Never heard nor knew of it while I lived in the ATL area.

I've been watching the coverage safely from my home in Cleveland. In case you were wondering where my mom's house is, Mother Nature was helpful enough to draw a bullseye around it.

    IMG_2756.JPG

My in laws, who are riding the storm there, sent video of the storm but I can't link it here from my phone. The power is out, but it looks like the only damage is lanai screens and a few trees down in the yard.

Naples airport KAPF automated weather was reporting during the hurricane passage, and still is reporting. That's impressive.

Miami's automated reporting lost its wind meter, sky condition, and precipitation soon after a 63 kt gust. After that it just reported pressure.

Glad to hear it went well. Sounds pretty hairy, up til now I never thought about "what if even alternate airports had too high wind to land?"

Up until now I had never heard the word "tornadic" but have heard it twice from the reporters in the field.

Glad to hear you guys are safe!

It's on Piedmont I just google mapped it.

I also went to see Turner field which they changed, sad to see how they changed it to football. A lot of memories in that Stadium in the 90's.

Couldn't you fly you and your family out?! Avoid all the traffic too!

I don't want to judge though you never know what the situation was.

How exactly would that green trimmed plane have wound up in that position?

Anyway made light of my evac from Florida here in Memphis. Took a friend up for just some local VFR around Memphis, I will say KMEM was very ga VFR friendly for departure and arrival back in!

In many instances it's a rather calculated financial move. To each their own.

Arrow-Seminole/Lance-Seneca are all identical retract system. No downlocks, only overcenter arms, hydraulic actuators (when pressurized) and spring assist on the nosewheel. Which means, when on the ground, the only thing keeping ya from collapsing is hydraulic pressure and the overcenter. Unpowered, just the overcenter.

Which means, with enough sideloading and vertical shimmying (aka cornering) you can force an overcenter collapse on the outside of the turn. A hurricane gale can easily push the airplane to pop the strut up and past the overcenter tension. Look at the position of the collapsed nosewheel. That's a LOT of sideforce in order to collapse it sideways (that one doesn't rotate in that direction mind you); the main strut arm linkages have no shot of holding that kind of sideloading.

Based on your signature line, I'm guessing you're a politician. :D

You've got a 4-place plane with a wife, 2 or 3 kids, a dog, a cat, maybe a mother or father that you care for.

Pretty easy decision for smart people. I can see how you missed it.

Assuming that your plane was big enough, sure. Some people have families larger than their plane.

I learned my plane isn't big enough to get my family out comfortably. Yes, we got out safely, which is more important, but I need a bigger plane to do it without a lot of extra stress.

Well, Irma has come and gone from Atlanta, leaving many of us in darkness. Considering how low intensity this storm was, that's pretty embarrassing.

Yeah ended up good here in the BHM area. Had some wind and rain, but no damage or trees down. I think downtown BHM had some flooding. Thank God we didn't lose anyone. Now Jose, what's that bugger gonna do and go?

Drove down to Destin today. A few trees down. Sadly on I65 saw a lot of FL tags, packed w/ possessions, headed back to FL. Felt so sorry for them, not knowing what they'll find when they get home. Started getting crazy so I got off the interstate and went the back way on 2 lanes. A lot more relaxing drive.

Beautiful weather, a few clouds, wind 5-10 in Destin. Had some seafood on the dock and could see F-15s beating up the pattern across the bay at Elgin. Good vis plus wind out of the NW so I could hear the sound of freedom from those bad boys too. Never gets old watching fighters.

Most likely scenario is that it turns and swings back out to sea instead of hitting the US, but things can always change.

We're back home. Two 50 foot trees and a lot of shingles, but otherwise no issues.
