On a whim, I updated to iOS26 on my iPad mini, that I use for Foreflight. Everything works as before - however - it did something terrible ! on battery life, it drains it like there is a hole in the bucket ! (Dear Liza ;)

Its awful awful bad !

Anyone else seeing the same ? Any fixes other than reverting back ?

I notice a bit more battery usage, and I know lots of people have complained about it - enough that I suspect it will be something Apple will address. I'm wondering whether a lot of it is the new app widowing system and it would be better if everything was set to open full screen only.

Edit - I forgot: I've seen information that when you update to 26, there is extensive background activity for several days for re-indexing and other setup tasks, and that it should diminish after that's complete. That maybe why I haven't noticed it that much. I've been running the public betas before release for a while.

This! It happens every time you do a major system update, so like once a year if you're keeping up to date. Don't worry about it, it'll go back to normal by next week.

Umm.... more than 3 weeks now - still draining like crazy....

battery life on my mini 6 was horrible anyway, don't even bother trying to use it without a charger nearby.

Go to Settings->Battery and scroll down and you can see what is using the battery...?
Not a big drain by percentage by any specific app, but I have definitely noticed a faster drain. But I have been running 26 since public beta and the rapid (perceived) drain seems more recent. I’m thinking it’s more about my Mini 6 being over 4 years old than the OS.

This is probably what it appears to be ... mine is about 5 years old too....

ah, the advantage of my iphone being too old to run 26

I just put 26 on my iPhone 12. Despite the clumsy UI microaggressions and 3 gigs of additional attack surface, battery life seems unchanged.

I just finally did mine too (26.2). Normally I'm more up to date than that, but my phone was too full to download the update until I removed about 40 minutes worth of video that was recorded inside my pocket. (Facepalm.)

No noticeable change in battery life, but my battery was already pretty well trashed. And despite this "Glass" UI, the glass is still cracked. Doh.

For the amount of time people spend stroking their tamagotchi... sheesh. Get the screen fixed!:D

I updated my iphone 16 a few days ago. I really dislike the fonts and icon graphics. Battery life seems about the same though.

I can discuss the iPad but I have no basis for iPhone comparisons, since this is my first iPhone. (I'm not counting the iPhone 7 I bought a few years ago solely as a backup; it's never eft my flight bag except for being updated when I had a longer trip). It all seems just fine to me :D

It might be worth replacing a screen OR a battery. If you need a screen AND a battery, you might as well get a new phone. But it's December and I'm not allowed to buy anything for myself until the 26th. ;)
