Cleaning out dad's hangar (he passed away in June). There are two engines, one is an Continental IO-520-M that is pretty disassembled. Pics attached. And there is another straight six that I haven't been able to identify. Maybe a Franklin?

I have an engine guy coming down to take a look at them. He says he is definitely interested in the IO-520 and not sure about anything else.

My question is, what are these things worth?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Chris

Call around to the aircraft salvage yards and inquire what their going unairworthy/unserviceable core values are. Be sure to give them the info off the data plates. Use that price as your start point.

I don't see any pictures of the straight 6, but I'm not aware of any straight 6 aircraft engines that were made after WW2, so that would be old. Figuring out what it is will be critical to determine value, along with how usable the parts are.

I don't recall what the TSIO-520-M came on, or if it was an engine that later had the heavy case (which is usually designated as an -xB in Continental speak, for example TSIO-520-N vs. -NB, what was in the Cessna 340 and 414). Generally I would have no interest in a lightweight case, they went to heavy cases for a reason (the lightweight ones fell apart). It would be worth core charge at best, that's about it. You could do some Googling to determine that.

And no, please don't send those to me. :)
