Hey folks
I'm a long time aviation enthusiast currently working on my first steps to the private.
To date I have 9 hours on the books and looking forward to my cross country and solo hours. Ultimately, I'd like to go multi-engine and own my own bird.
I live really close to Mather Air Field (KMHR) and admire the commuters taking off every morning around 7ish AM. There's usually a plane taking off every 30 seconds or so. I don't aspire to commute on a plane every day considering my office is .125 miles from my house. I do, however, aspire to fly.
I had temporarily stopped my training over a year ago. A combination between a bad flying day and my dad's ultimatum forbidding continued flying activities halted it. The piece that inspired my sudden return to the pilot's seat was this op-ed:

I had been lamenting on the fact that it took 6 hours of instruction to finally stick a good landing, and after reading that article I realized that it was more an esteem issue. I will be a good pilot dammit.
My emphasis, at the moment, is learning good safety habits and referring to my notes from my CFI's instruction. I'm watching tons of youtube videos, watching others making mistakes and all-around trying to absorb as much as I can. Academically, I'm soaking in the latest FAR and the operations manual for the various planes my flight school utilizes. I am, more or less, living/eating/breathing aviation.
So, I hope to make some good friends on here. The community appears friendly and helpful.
I look forward to learning from all the veteran flyers on here and, perhaps, when the time comes meet some of you at a future fly-in.
