    Hey folks

I'm a long time aviation enthusiast currently working on my first steps to the private.

To date I have 9 hours on the books and looking forward to my cross country and solo hours. Ultimately, I'd like to go multi-engine and own my own bird.

I live really close to Mather Air Field (KMHR) and admire the commuters taking off every morning around 7ish AM. There's usually a plane taking off every 30 seconds or so. I don't aspire to commute on a plane every day considering my office is .125 miles from my house. I do, however, aspire to fly.

I had temporarily stopped my training over a year ago. A combination between a bad flying day and my dad's ultimatum forbidding continued flying activities halted it. The piece that inspired my sudden return to the pilot's seat was this op-ed:

    http://www.planeandpilotmag.com/article/unnatural/

I had been lamenting on the fact that it took 6 hours of instruction to finally stick a good landing, and after reading that article I realized that it was more an esteem issue. I will be a good pilot dammit.

My emphasis, at the moment, is learning good safety habits and referring to my notes from my CFI's instruction. I'm watching tons of youtube videos, watching others making mistakes and all-around trying to absorb as much as I can. Academically, I'm soaking in the latest FAR and the operations manual for the various planes my flight school utilizes. I am, more or less, living/eating/breathing aviation.

So, I hope to make some good friends on here. The community appears friendly and helpful.

I look forward to learning from all the veteran flyers on here and, perhaps, when the time comes meet some of you at a future fly-in.

    My name is Daniel

Hi Daniel! Welcome to the zoo. Learning to fly can be overwhelming at times (many times) but once you solo and get thru the XC phase it all starts coming from together, I mean coming together. Old joke on POA. Hang in there and git 'er done!

Welcome to the board Daniel & congratulations on getting started again.

You didn't mention your age but when you mentioned your Dad I assume you are young. I started taking lessons when I was 15 & my mother was terrified & knew I'd die every time I took a lesson.

Her parting words to me as I left for the airport were " Son. always fly low & slow". I soon learned that wasn't the best advice.

Thanks and lol no. Im 43. But, he was still very protective of me. At the time he was on the decline with prostate cancer so his fears had an effect on me. It was more emotional for me. But... moving on.

Welcome to POA, thanks for the article. I'm a year and some change past my check ride, still having fun and trying to stay current without the training agenda.
