Interetation please

Nope, you're given at least six months not less than six months. Too complicated to figure 180 days and too easy to make a mistake.

Not if you use an electronic logbook, but whatever, my goal is to never brush up against the six month rule, makes the math easy.

So when it says "remain within ten miles" do you count the first mile?

(i) Within the 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight,...

It would make it match the interpretation if they added a clarification in front of the such as:

No earlier than within the 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight,...

How about...

“...(tasks) performed since the first day of the sixth calendar month preceding the calendar month of the flight.”

then for the 6 month grace period...

“...until the last day of the sixth calendar month following the calendar month of the flight “

this give us the 6-1-6 schedule we use now.

It's not impossible to write a rule that is clear and interpretable. Most professional sports write clear rules (with some notable exceptions), and they often illustrate more confusing rules with common examples.
