A week ago today I had the pleasure of being part of a panel discussion in Wichita, KS, at the convention of the American Bonanza Society (ABS). The event we discussed there, though, was not that pleasant for me at the time: a severe mechanical issue with the landing gear, which looked like it was leading to a landing on the belly as the manual gear extension method did not work.
This is a long video, but I trust it will be helpful to understand tips and methods and to create a mindset which will be helpful should pilots find themselves in a fix one day. And while the actual event was not fun, the discussion prompted a few good laughs from the audience.
Special thanks to Doug Rozendaal and Shane Vande Voort for participating in this panel (and for their help during the fateful flight), and to Susan Delgado from the American Bonanza Society for the kind introduction of the panel, as well as to Tom Turner for working us into the convention agenda.
