I'm Outside and it is very cold today

Texas is so cold. I look forward to warmer days.

Also I feel POA has grown cold having lost a valued member last night.
I hope Captain returns soon.

Not particularly necessary or even in good taste. This board is getting a rather "Lord of the Flies" feel to it.

Concur with Henning.

Time + Tragedy = comedy, but not enough time has passed on this one.

None of our posts are all that necessary.

If all we did was post about flying and use the search feature, this board would have died off. Everything has been asked, answered, and debated multiple times.

Taste? Meh, it was a joke. Maybe after some coffee it will not seem funny to me anymore.

I liked Capt. Just fine and I think he will be back. I am not aware of Captain and booze is a sensitive subject, I just saw a post about him leaving because someone insinuated he was drunk. If that was bad taste because that is a real issue then I apologize.

I just read the one post and thought he was being cute as he is one to do a lot.

I didn't see anything in poor taste. Cap mighta thought it was funny.

The bad taste is denigrating people, which this board is full of. Even denigrating someone with humor is in bad taste. The level at which it happens here is getting kind of excessive. We already have one thread dedicated to tearing into Captain and feeding on his flesh, how many more need be started?:dunno: It's just kind of sad.

Depends on your definition of tragedy. One man's tragedy is another man's celebration.

I read the thread in question, and the only post that grossed me out was by Captain. I would post it here, but it is in too poor taste.

I agree. What ever was the "bee in his bonnet" was pretty weak. Good riddance if that's all it took for him to bail.

His actions and words are irrelevant, the reactions are what is telling. The meaness in people's hearts and the joy apparent when they have a place to express it is just astounding to me. :nonod:

Could be your interpretation. :dunno:

I have no meanness in my heart for captain.
And his "words are irrelevant" as you stated but the mean people's aren't?

All you have here are written words and you are deciding whose are relevant and who's are not?

This.

And yes, the MC is aware of the "unfriendliness" issue (in general, not just this post) and discussing the matter.

I think the unfriendliness issue, other than me - because I'm just a misanthrope in general - is the anonymity. The unfriendliness became more so as more people who like to 'hide' joined the board. Back when we started 10 years we all tried to meet each other, organize lunch get togethers etc...

Then this place got 'too big' and the meanness increased as more people who have zero intention of ever getting out from behind their monitor arrived. You want to bring the "niceness" back? Require every member to attend at least one PoA get together every year or two.

This year we have two fly ins that are having their 10th event. Wings will be having its 10th Fly-In in May, and 6Y9 will be having its 10th event on Labor Day Weekend. And Gaston's will be having it's 11th. And if the pointy things are in the way, the California group has an 'eternal' meetup thread.

His words are irrelevant to your words. Each person is responsible for their own. You choose how to react to the words of others, they don't force it on you. That is what I mean with relevance.

It just reflects poorly when we think denigration is humor. That you, and many others, don't recognize this as denigration points to other, even greater, problems in our social fabric.

I agree, I believe anonymity on the Internet has always been what made it such a jackelfest.

It doesn't happen often, but I agree completely with Ed on this.

Everything we were taught as children about how to live and interact with other people, it all just seems to disappear after people have children of their own.

Na. After you have kids you realize you don't want to put up with crap so you push back to find the truth. I can live and get a long with just about anyone, but that doesn't mean I am not going to call you out when you are wrong.

I like to be open- the BeechTalk board requires real names (they changed to that policy within a couple of weeks of opening), and I strongly favor that approach.

There are many here who do not try to hide their identity - I rather prefer that approach.

A big part of humor like it or not is poking fun at people.
AFV is all dads getting hit in the nuts with baseballs, kids slipping on ice, and crap like that.

That's kiddie humor.

Grown up humor is no different and there is nothing wrong with it.
It is in poor taste to pick on soft targets but I feel Captain in particular is one of the posters heavily into bantering with others. He is not a soft target. Meaning you don't pick on sick, weak, uninterested. He and a lot of others are a peer in the gooftroop.

Do I think Ed Fred really thinks I am gay because of his last thread? I mean, I kind a hope. I have been to his page and he is cute.

He is having fun and I am an easy target and I think it is funny. I like being an easy target. It is really funny to target yourself.

The difference is true denigration is not humor but hate and I don't see much true denigration here, I see what I refer to as banter which is faux denigration designed to be jovial.

Its like those "Yo mama is so fat jokes"
I don't think they even really know each others' mommas.
I suspect they aren't really harboring hateful feelings towards someones mama.

Whatever. Something is lost in translation.

I will stick to how to time my flare threads moving forward I guess.

Perhaps a wee bit soon.

You pushed and found the easy lie, the deception.

There is fine line to humor, and the line is intent.

Seriously and honestly, what was going through your mind when you titled this thread?

I thought the same thing I think just about every time I type on a keyboard for non work related purposes.

I thought "I wonder if I can write something funny" I almost went the "I'm out of the closet" route but I scanned the original "Im out thread and saw the comment about someone insinuating he was drunk" and opted for "I'm out of beer"

I never once thought anything negative toward Captain. I quite enjoy his posts and I believe he will be back. I am not one of the people posting "Good riddance" because I don't feel that way.

Somehow I now feel I am in a round about way being told I dislike the guy and yet others are posting direct "Thank God he's gone" type stuff which is not how I feel and not something I would post if I did feel that way.

I am just trying to be cute. It is my role on this planet. And finally somebody (EdFred) agrees that I am cute.

There are 2 people on this forum that I have found myself actually angry at and I have fought with both of them and I feel better about them both having directly squabbled with them and I enjoy both of their posts.

If I really truly disliked captain, I wouldn't have posted anything. I am not one of these good riddance types. If I really had a problem with him, I would have probably argued with him as I did the other two. Or I would have just ignored his departure.

I have no ill feelings toward Captain. I am sad to see him go but I think he will be back. He did this once before and came back. I hope that transpires again.

If the fine line is intent, then I have a clear conscious.
My intent was not to harm Captain. It was to maybe make someone chuckle and bonus if I score a date with EdFred.

Right.
If you don't know it will be funny or appreciated by the subject, then it's not funny - it's mean spirited.

If you don't know the subject well enough to answer the question accurately, you don't have enough information. (And might do well to find another way to get to know them. Perhaps something other than poking with a stick progressively harder until you find the breaking point - especially in this medium.)

Don't go changin', to try and please me - Billy Joel

Oh you silly goof :)
I only aim to please the aviation community at large.

Life is beautiful and I hope to soon enjoy some beautiful skies in a general aviation aircraft. I find much joy in participating in flight.

Have Joy.

Oh I did find that funny.
Dean Martin was one of a kind, classic.
I do not condone the glorifying substance abuse.
However, I am able to find the humor in the clip.

If you are having trouble with substance abuse, I recommend the following link to get help for you are a loved one in need.

Foster Brooks was the star of that clip.... All Dean did was laugh...

Whoopsie. My Faux pa.

Both gentlemen in the clip were equally stimulating to me in a joyful way.
I did not mean to distribute the credit unevenly.

I will watch it a second time now for the enjoyment provided by both of the characters in the clip posted by N801BH who has provided additional joy to my day using the aforementioned video clip.
