It's a 1960s straittail cessna tailwheel with a 0320 and its been sitting untouched for years can someone help me out the the tail number is

N5773E

So how much money are you figuring on needing to "restore" this?

The cheapest airplanes often end up being the most expensive.

I looked up the owner online. Older gentleman but seems to be an interesting person and known pilot.

It's current on registration. The owner lives in Alaska, it has patroller fuel tanks. With the O320 it's basically a single place airplane. It's been wrecked a couple of times.

Well i have always been drawn to it it does still have the original 25 gallon tanks

And since its a tailwheel with a strait tail it is eligible for a 1800lbs max gross increase make it extremely capable hauler especially if you remove the old boat anchor insterments

Well i had a guy look it over and well im going to go to a and p school so I will be able to get it airworthy for fairly inexpensive

Well its pretty neat little bird does anyone think im dumb for wanting to do this

Well he just looked on the outside but I looks good but I could have hidden corrosion

Those weren’t original. They were added later. The installer in 10/4/1989 took Cessna 172 tanks and modified them to 19 gallons each and installed in this 150.

Well these others have peaked my interest as well a moony m20 and a 175skylark

Oh ok I thought 25 gallons was the standard 150 tank size my bad thanks for pointing it out

That moony had surfaced about 2 or 3 years ago it almost sold but the guy never showed up is what I heard the story was

There is a STC to increase gross weight to 1760.

What's on it right now for the engine is STC SA572CE. It limits the GW at 1500 lbs landplane and 1700 ibs for seaplane.

The tailwheel conversion is Texas Tailwheels STC SA2846SW and I don't see in the STC where it allows GW increase

If the plane is in AK, I recall something about increased gross weights allowed, but never bothered to figure out the limits. Of course, that all goes away if it leaves AK.

Yes but if I get it I can update the STCs

Not sure what you are planning on updating. That plane has had a rough life. I would make sure the repairs done to the gearbox are correct. The engine has sat for a long time, it will need to be looked at. Hoses, carb, mags, wires, plugs all add up. You could very likely end up with the most expensive Cessna 150 around.

Best of luck.

FWIW: while coming out of school with an A&P is a definite plus, unless you have the experience behind that certificate, you may be disappointed the A&P alone will not drop your costs as much as you might think at this point. Regardless, best of luck.

If you're referring to 91.323, then it only applies to a narrow group of very old aircraft that flew Part 121 or 135 and not to any other aircraft like this 150.

Well i was told I should be able to get it flying by Joel Powell a a and p testing examiner that it would cost me about 10 to 15k to be able to get it leagle but ruff

Hey just wanted to say sorry for being a little bit of a know it all I dont really have alot of experience so thanks for helping me out

I have a feeling this falls in the category of "you don't know what you don't know". Starting with the inability to navigate the easiest of things and find out who the owner is.

Yes. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. The fact that you used the words "I think I can get it airworthy for fairly inexpensive" is very worrying indeed.

Repeat after me: "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap airplane."

If this is some a situation where you are trying to get a cheap airframe with the intent of learning A&P stuff for career purposes, then perhaps it's reasonable if you can get a screaming deal. If, as I suspect, you believe that you can use this as a cheap way to get your own airplane, then I regret to say that it's very likely that reality is waiting around the corner with a sock full of rocks.

There only thing more expensive than owning an antique airplane is restoring/upgrading that antique airplane. Some very experienced people in the thread are not enthusiastically supporting your idea. It might be worth spending a little time asking why that is.

Well im trying to get it to learn a and p stuff and also fly it thanks a whole bunch for give me yalls advice as im not super experienced yet I will definitely heed your advice

There's a clean looking Luscombe 8A on this site for good money. I know nothing about it, but between the two, I'd take the Luscombe all day long. "No wood, glue, nails". A little challenging to land, but with some good ground training nothing that can't be accommodated.
