I flew for the first time since March or April. Life events have kept me running for a good long time, but that should subside some.

After subjecting my engine to a highly stressful takeoff (the dreaded Vy departure), I went to the practice area and spent an hour doing air work: slow flight, stalls, turns around a point, steep turns, best glide, simulated engine out, and slips.

Came back and had a great landing on the numbers. IMHO nothing brings back your landing sight picture like lots of slow flight and power off stalls.

If the weather holds for Thursday evening I will go beat the pattern and work on softs, shorts, slips, zoom climbs.....Well, maybe not the last one.

Good to fly again.

Glad to hear you're back in the saddle, Bill! I know the feeling. This time last year to Christmas was very little flight time with new baby and the 310 in for new engines.

Glad you got back in the air and glad your back on POA Bill. Now you just have to get Brent's butt back!:D

Chicken. :D

Welcome back to the skies...

I was thinking that, too! WV62 sounds like a great way to do just that.

Depends if I can get some hood practice and my IPC by then. Although that time of the year is CAVU a lot of the time. Maybe!

Congrats on the young'n!

I could give both you and Brent an IPC if you make it up.

I still need some practice before an IPC. VFR wise the rust for me comes off quickly, my 1st practice approach was.....not good.

Understood. The IFR rust builds more quickly and knocks off harder. :)

We might actually start doing $100 hamburgers (although they're much more expensive these days, especially in a twin) more than anything to keep some regular flying going. With reduced Cloud Nine flights as well, I don't like going a month or more between flights.

I need to reprint my FAA patterns A & B, grab a safety pilot, and go to the practice area. THEN start shooing some approaches.

Beat the pattern last night, all good landings except for the last. There must have been some SAMs in the area.

Happens to the best of us. Every now and then I have a landing where I wonder "WTF did I do there?"

I have never done the A&B patterns but if everyone hates them, they must be god for something. :D

David

The A and B patterns are old, but they are a great tool to build the skills that will be used later when trying to fly the airplane in a specified configuration while trying to read the approach procedure.

My CFII made me do them over and over again until I could almost do them in my sleep, but he was an old crusty guy in his 60's and had his ways. I actually enjoyed them in a strange way.

Whatcha got against guys in their 60s? :D
