Then pretty much every thread No Joy posts is trolling as well along with a butt load of others.

Yeah, he does a lot of trolling but it's pretty harmless. I've posted on several unmoderated boards and seen trolling 100 times worse, the kind that gets cops called.

The Mile High thread was harmless as well. Death, violence and destruction are all ok, but a little sex is verboten? No wonder America is viewed as so ****ed up.

I take it it got deleted?

"Closed pending MC review.
As a reminder, trolling is against the Rules of Conduct. "

Since I contributed to that thread, I feel like I was an accessory to trolling. :yikes:

Besides, shouldn't it have been in the Mile High Flyers forum?

Haha maybe it got better but that thread was boring. Yeah we know about helicopter hero and the chick CFI that kicked off the auto pilot. Yawn.

Well, maybe you all knew about the helicopter guy and that CFI lady, but I didn't. It was a legitimate question. I'm sorry if it was in the wrong place on the forum. I didn't know.

You guys need to lighten up.

Let me summarize that thread:

BobThePilot: How do I do the mile-high trick in a 172?
Ron: There's no safe way to do it, and people have been killed or lost their certificate doing it. You're risking not only your life but that of your passenger who doesn't realize all this. Demonstrate your maturity rather than your machismo and don't try t.
BTP: I know it's stupid and dangerous, but I'm going to do it anyway.
Ron: You're either a troll who needs to be kicked off this site or lack the requisite judgment to hold a pilot certificate.

And you want me to lighten up? :nono:

Ron,

I understand and respect the point you are making. I apologize if I have offended you. I believe I can do this safely by using the AP and possibly a remote mic switch. I'm looking into this now. As long as I moniitor ATC then act promptly on their command, I don't see what is unsafe about this at all. I am based in Arizona so it is not like the skies are crowded.

The worst case is to end up like that helicopter pilot, which is what? He has his certificate back and he is famous. Not too bad.

Infamous is not the same as famous.

If you believe that, you haven't completely thought it through. It simply cannot be done safely without a second qualified pilot to fly while you do other things.

Further, since the FAA is on record as saying this is both illegal and unsafe, it worries me that you are still considering doing this. The FAA has a presentation on Hazardous Attitudes, and you are exhibiting a couple of them in persisting with your efforts to find a way to do this. You're spending a lot of time on this issue. Why don't you spend the time more profitably by reading this, and then reviewing FAA AC 60-22.

When you spend more time thinking about this, I expect you'll realize there are better ways to prove yourself as a good pilot than this stunt.

I knew Ron would find a FAR against the mile high club.

:mad2:

The majority accidents that happens to high mile club members are due to lost of control in flight :) Right?

Bob,
172 it's no big problem ! I too used this venerable airframe to join the club myself and it didn't even have an AP. Just slide both front seats all the way back, re-trim, move yourself to the middle put your left foot on the pilots side RIGHT rudder pedal and your right foot on the co-pilots side LEFT rudder pedal and begin procreation practice ! Just remember your rudder inputs are backwards ( think Flexible Flyer Sled) but it's not like you need to make that many in the course of normal flight anyway.

I'm rather tired of you denying reality when I post something that doesn't fit with the way you'd like things to be. It is that sort of attitude which drives the FAA to write more regs and interpret them more strictly in an effort to stamp out behaviors they consider contrary to safety. In particular, with regard to another discussion in progress on the SARA, this sort of attitude among pilots will lead them to impose tight limits on any changes to the certification rules. As R&W wrote, the FAA is well aware that any time they write a rule, there will be lots of folks like you who will try to distort it into allowing things the FAA never intended to allow.

In any event, I didn't "find" such a reg -- the FAA Chief Counsel invoked it in the Martz case. I didn't write it, I didn't interpret it, I didn't cause it to come into being. It exists, and the main stream of aviation thought agrees completely that this particular act is both unsafe and illegal. I know there are those on PoA who routinely encourage doing things despite them being illegal/unsafe, but that doesn't change the reality of those conditions.

If I monitor ATC and am on an IFR plan, which FAR am I violating while I am doing the deed? I am simply multitasking, and it is no more illegal in my opinion than talking to a passenger. Sterile cockpit does not apply here.

See-and-avoid.

ATC only separates you from IFR traffic, not from VFR traffic.

Yes, this is the only area that is problematic. This is where I may need to bend the rules a bit. But almost every flight, we bend the rules there. How many of us have our eyes out on stalks looking out the window continuously? None I would say, after we've got our tickets and got past the excitement of the first XC.

This is why I suggested being on an IFR plan, because then at least we will be at an IFR altitude. Yes, we could meet up with a VFR plane climbing or decending but Big Sky theory... Not likely.

Okay, not a bad idea! Big issue is the space and positioning myself more in the middle seems to be the way to go. Never thought of doing that with the rudder pedals... My plan is to use an AP anyway.

You've obviously done this or planned it. Bravo for having the guts to join me in discussing this openly!

Ron, he doesn't really want to know how to do the mile-high trick, he just wants to brag that he's going to do it.

Did you read the Martz order? I guess not. Here it is again. This time please read it completely.

I am simply multitasking, and it is no more illegal in my opinion that talking to a passenger. Sterile cockpit does not apply here.
I hate to burst your bubble, Bob, but your opinion doesn't count on this issue. The FAA has spoken, the NTSB has confirmed it -- doing this is most definitely illegal.

As for your opinion that it is just "multitasking," we're back what I said earlier about maturity and judgment, which your posts suggest you lack.

And with that, again, I'm out.

This feels a little like the return of Pete to me

now this is a feat: mile high deed in a 172, in IMC, while having a BMI over 40 and possibly OSA, with a medical exam coming up, possible over gross weight and forward CG. Feds should probably start thinking about writing FAR 91.69, NO sex shall take place during any flight operation (in whatever archaic laywer speak they use).:rofl::rofl::rofl:

A thread asking about the mile high club is trolling. A thread titled "From the Peoples Socialist Republic of Kalifornia" isn't. Got it.

Hmmmm...

Suppose you got a Catholic ATC guy working your flight and he cleared you for the "pull out"......

1- Do you continue and ignore his request.

2- Pull out and ruin the moment?:dunno:;):D......

3- Say a Hail Mary and 2 Our Fathers and hope you don't have to explain the details in the confessional...

Lots of states and repressed legislators have hang-ups about sex. Doesn't mean you shouldn't engage in whatever position that "floats your boat". Last thing we need is Big Brother watching us in the airplane bedroom whist having sex.

I don't understand this PoA forum's fascination on getting a declaration of "trolling". What some people want for a legitimate, AND light-hearted discussion is "trolling" by those who seem to have a stick inserted firmly up some part of their anatomy.

If one doesn't like the topic of a thread, don't click on it. Or, even better, click on it and tell the OP why they are a "poo-poo head" for coming up with the topic.

I have no idea why a "mile high club" is not a legitimate topic, even if the participants of the discussion have very little chance of ever finding a willing co-pilot.

It's all some form of stupid and we really should stop it.

Having been an old rec.aviation.xxx participant and BBS user in general, it was a community overwhelm by trolling. On one hand you have pros that stir the pot because they can (Bob the whatever), then you have people who take the bait (Ron, shame on you), then you have people who are part of the community but bring in stuff that works better elsewhere (Kalifornia).

At some point the signal to noise ratio inverts and people bail out.

Is anything wrong with the subjects or POVs expressed? No, but not all things need to be covered in all places.

Active moderation is the thing that makes these things work over the long term. Without it, some sort of internet entropy tales over. For Chrissakes, don't rebuild the thread in question here (it's already happened). Just walk away as you report the activity to the moderators.

Rant off, later.

I agree, but then what about all the other obvious troll threads that just go on page after page after page? No Joy has put up less than a handful of non trolling threads and cross posts all over the place. I haven't seen anything locked down there yet.

With rare exception, I put threads on ignore after 50 posts. After 50, almost all threads have devolved into a dick measuring contest. (mods, it would be nice if the forum software allowed one to do this automatically)

I used to block people. No longer. I now block threads. Not surprisingly, I still block the same people.

Amazing how that works.

I suspect that isn't what you meant although for the insecure there might be a market? Perhaps an automatically updated SIG line as your 'mood' changes? Not my cup of tea... but I digress.

In any case, these kind of threads are a waste of time and I see quite a bit of trolling here.... even economic trolling (attacking other businesses). The fake user names don't help much either... about the only legitimate interest in a fake user name would be to make the government's job in tracking me down a bit harder. Other then that, I see them simply as a means to not be accountable for one's words.

I don't think it is a troll thread so much as a stupid one.

"The Zen man flies when he flies, sleeps when he sleeps, ....s when he ....s," etc.

[blah blah blah lots of inane blather removed]

Economic trolling? What is that? That is the most retarded accusation so far in this and the other thread.

I just wanted advice on the best way to get laid in a plane. That is all. For those of you who are not uptight about sex and gave advice, thank you. For the others... Go take your superior morals elsewhere. If you have a problem with me violating the FARs, fine, but don't judge me if I want to get romantic up there.

Give her one for me. Say 'this is for Tex' and hitter in the ****ter. :goofy:

Economic trolling? What is that? .

Economic trolling would be adopting a fake user name so you can bash someone's business. There was a recent example of this in a engine rebuild thread.

That is the most retarded accusation so far in this and the other thread I just wanted advice on the best way to get laid in a plane. That is all.

No pretty much this is the most retarded thread as it's not even good trolling, and I've done my share of trolling in the past.

As to advice for you getting laid, I'd suggest you take your left hand off your johnson and get a subscription to match.com... although in your case some hookers might be more cost effective.
