...the guy who owns the hangar across from me is a strong contender. One day last week was the first time I saw it open but I didn't have time to stop and gawk. Today it was open again and I did! Wow...and purportedly none of this ever moves. That's the sad part. And, yes, everything is owned by one guy...plus the FBO manager tells me that he has more toys scattered about that airport because this hangar is full.

Momma always told me life wasn't fair!
What a collection! I'd be real nice to that guy if I were you.

Good for him! Love to see successful people have fun.

Even if they don't move!

The story goes that he developed something that he sold to microsoft.

I googled the legend airways DC3 tail number and it's be reassigned to a mooney. That's how long it's been since it's (apparently) moved.

Nice collection, wouldn't mind helping him out ,would be happy to fly them occasionally.

BTW...I was intrigued by the chopper having "experimental" scrawled down the side. I don't know anything about choppers and there was no one around to ask.

Tell him I'll sacrifice my time and come to MO to check that staggerwing out in the air for 100hrs or so.

Yup.....

He wins .. Hands down,,,,,

Good for him for living the American dream...:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Damn, what a hangar. Does he need anyone to put time on that Huey? I volunteer!

He has more than me!

Therefore - I hate him, and think he should be taxed to penury. ;)

hahahahaha! gotcha. I know a few guys like this, but they don't have quite an eclectic collection as this. Nice stuff. Somewhere there's a calculator that figures out what you would be worth if you invested in MS when it opened. Problem was, you couldn't buy when it opened, it was all subscribed. Even after the waiting period, you would be pretty well off.

FAA reg says it's still the DC3

He's doing something right

If they just sit in a hangar?:dunno: I don't see why this would be considered "doing it right". I just see stuff sitting around. I see the same thing with private yachts, barely used except by the crew.

You looking at the right DC3? There's two of them. The Legend Airways is the only tail number I googled...didn't chck out the rest to see if they were current or not.

Nothing like seeing a staggerwing being mothballed . . . Not seeing the "fun" in that. Also, few things uglier than a Cobra with the removable hard top on it.

He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

Converting a pile o' cash into a pile o' cars and airplanes is OK, I suppose. It's apparently one guy's money and this is still a reasonably free country, so, whatever blows his hair back.

That looks more like acquisitiveness than collecting. The airplanes, while not cheap, aren't really what one could call investment grade, with the exception of the Staggerwing. The cars have more potential to appreciate, I would think. If the Cobra is the genuine article it could be the most valuable thing in the hangar.

The money spent on that assortment of stuff could have made the lives of many people a lot better. I mean, the guy could have bought enough congress critters to make the elimination of the 3rd Class Medical a reality.

I saw no money in that garage. All the money that bought those toys went to someone else, and I presume they either spent or invested it, thus stimulating the economy.

It's a military UH-1. Since there is no type certificate, it's either flown Restricted or Experimental.

That's like a freakin' museum. Pretty amazing. But sad they don't get flown.

I can't compete with that so I'll just throw in the towel now.

There was a guy in Cape Girardeau that also had a great collection.

Agreed... Altho the Lear 24 probably can't be flown anywhere in the U.S, considering how damn noisy they are....:yikes:.....

So long as he preserves them so they can be flown in the future, I don't care if he flies them or not. Would like for my kids to see these still flying when they're adults too.
