Now on this forum, you can either call me Jim, or if you're slightly more daring, O captain my Captain...

Definitely got thrown right into it... Had my first experience de-icing today at ORD, as well as some nice moderate rime encounters the last couple days, all with a fairly new FO.

Overall quite fun, but those first few legs with Pax and an FO shooting close to minimums in ice definitely had my brain just about temping/torquing out; Well, at least running at 101.6%...

With apologies to Eric, Terry, John, Graham, and Michael

"And the Lord spake, saying, 'First that shalt take out the holy epaulet. Then shalt thou count to four. No More. No Less. Four shall the the stripes thou shalt count, and the number of the stripes shall be four. Five shalt thou not count, nor either count thou three, excepting that thou then proceed to four. Six is right out (unless your Paul Bertorelli). Once the number four, being the fourth number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy holy A380 pilot towards thou flight attendant, who being naughty in my sight..."

Congrats Captain!

Thanks everybody!

What aircraft do you fly?
208B Grand Caravan. Alright, get your laughs in... Great way to build time and experience, especially turbine PIC, to get up to something with multiple turbines in a year or two. It's real flying, not just button pushing, and quite fun.

 That was great! My chief pilot kept quoting that movie during my IOE. I suppose I should go back and watch it again, it's been years...

Congrats man!

Being a Captain of a commercial aircraft has its own special skill set, and it's independent of the type of aircraft being flown. It's great experience no matter how you slice it.

Yeah, that's quite apparent. No amount of CRM training in class or online prepares you for actually dealing with 'em...

Nothing to laugh at flying a oversize Cessna 172.

Congrats

I saw your other thread. Congrats! I'll what I asked on the other thread. Are you looking to go to the airlines? Do you have multi time or just SEL time?

Way to go Capt.

Your story brings back memories. Sure is different when the new guy is looking at you like!! "Umm so what should we do now"

You shifted gears in your career for sure. Another learning curve ahead.

But it's a great one.

Good luck

Congrats, how often/when do you fly out of ORD?
That's not too standard. I'd say at least once every couple days. Now that we have the new route to Mason City, IA started, it's increased, but I've been off the line in training since we started of that route.

Congrats sir......

You are now the OFFICIAL boss...

You are the official boss when you can fire people.....

For me, I always thought being a line pilot was the worst job in the company. Sure you get to fly the plane but the places I worked at the pilots were the ones getting fired all the time.

I saw a baggage handler drive a forklift into the side of a plane. The pilot was fired for allowing the baggage handler drive and not waiting for the forklift driver. I would bet that even if the pilot would have waited for a driver, he would have been fired for not departing on schedule.

In retrospect, all the companies that fired me without a valid reason paid through the nose in court and helped me buy my company.

And Jim, it sounds like you have a good career plan, I hope it all works out for you.

Congrats. There's a passage in the excellent book "Sky Gods" (Robert Gandt) about being a pilot at Pan Am. There were guys who were first officer's forever because the captains were all post-war old timers. One first officer would regularly show up at dispatch with the comment "Let's see which bastard I'm flying for today." When these guys finally started to retire and the FO's finally moved up the dispatcher asked this guy "Which bastard are you flying for today," and he just cocked his thumbs at himself and said "This one."

Welcome to the club! I'll have someone get you a set of keys to the Captain's bathroom.

:)

Always understated, Eagle... snuck in there, didn't you? CONGRATS to you too!

(Was nice to meet ya a few years ago at Gaston's... hope to run into you again someday... Can't think of a nicer guy to get to do some dozing for dollars after all your years of flying stuff that requires a lot more continuous attention. :) )
