That's a good article. Despite having my road couch (Harley Ultra Classic) I have been finding myself thinking that the BMW offerings are really better for longer trips. I also had a similar experience back when I flew the MU-2. Once before a long trip (something on the order of 20+ hours in a few days) I threw my back out and had a hard time getting out of bed. But managed to crawl my way up front and sit in the left seat of the MU-2 for a few days straight essentially. Back felt better afterwards.
Still, the backwards electrical hookups are an abomination to the righteous who choose standardization over theory of electron flow.
gosh that looks fun! I have too many partially done project cars at the moment, but boy does that look fun!!!!!!
Been a while since I updated this. The car remains in progress… mainly because a year later the machine shop STILL hasn’t finished my engine. The good news is I’ve got the body painted and it’s going back together. Just redid the wheels too… may touch those up a bit yet but they didn’t turn out too bad.
Looks pretty. Is the shop still trying to figure out how a Lucas ignition works? (Hint - it doesn't.)
I read the title and immediately thought you made a wiring mistake! One of my favorite track day stories, the gentleman doing the driver meeting in the morning was explaining the flags to the novices. When he got to the debris flag, it was explained as, and I quote "the British car ahead flag".
If you’d like another British engine (actually American that was sent to England to learn how to leak more oil) that also doesn’t work, you could always swap the 4.0 from my Land Rover in after I put the C4.4 in (which I really need to get working on).
Lycocontax Oddly enough, that was one of the few electrical things that did work on it. The engine ran before I took it in but a cam lobe was wiped and another valve was sticking so it was basically on 2cylinders. IDK what's up with the shop, I must be last priority. It's been close to a year and I just needed it cleaned/checked and bored out basically. Time to go back and be the squeaky wheel again I guess. w-would that even fit? I'll get to confuse the pre-k pickup again. I'm becoming known for showing up in a different vehicle every day
I'm about certain it. That 4.0 V8 is a really compact little engine. A 302 is significantly larger in external dimensions. A quick search of Google shows that not only can it be done, but it has been done: That, too, will fit. I'm about certain, although nobody else has done it before. "Finished" is a strong word... Once I get the RV "ready for the season" (the current batch of work on it) the focus then moves over to the RX-7 (race season prep), the Cobra, and the Disco swap, more in whatever order the available parts and time happen to allow work. I suppose I should start getting together parts for rebuilding the T56.
You sound bored. Have you considered building a plane, just to have something to do with your spare time?
MG did it. Rover V8 into MGB. No idea what was changed. https://www.mgownersclub.co.uk/mg-guides/mgb/mgb-gtv8
More on V8: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_MGB "MG never attempted to export the MGB GT V8 to the United States. " The V8 engine is reportedly a bit lighter than the B series. No idea what gearbox/axle was used.
Oh, the discussions have been going on. Think miniature MU-2 that can take off from my 1,000 ft grass runway and still do >200 (250+ would be nice). No, I'm not starting that. I'm not joking. Really.
