So, my home pool has been attracting worms for the past year or so. I'd find 2 or 3 each morning and scoop them out with the net on a pole thingy. My wife was convinced they were coming up through the bottom drain pipe and I told her that's silly as it's impossible. The pump turns on each day and any worms in there would be sucked into the pump and pulverized.

She countered with there must be a leak where the worms are getting in. I said no, as any leak big enough for a worm to get in would cause a few hundred gallon per day leak and we'd see that. Also, a leak under ground would have water coming OUT of the leak and a worm couldn't get in that way.

But, the fact remains worms are getting into my pool. Today I woke up to a MASSIVE spike in the number of dead worms. The bottom of the pool was covered in them. Literally dozens and dozens of them.

Why would worms be attracted to a pool and what can I do to stop the mass annelida suicide campaign?

I'd be more worried about the shark. :)

Do you find any on the cool deck? Worms crawl up out of the ground when the ground is wet. And more so at night (hence the name "nightcrawler"). I'd first suspect they are crawling in rather than coming through the piping. Do you have flower beds inside your enclosure? Look there first.

We have medications for our feline patients with worms. Perhaps you should see your doctor. And stop swimming in the pool for a while to see if the worms stop in case you are the one spreading them.

First, I would just like to say screw you for having an indoor pool.
mine is churning to prevent the pipes from freezing right now. Looks like you can use yours year round.

Not sure about the worms. I will trade you though. My morning infestations on the pool floor are spiders and lizards.

I love that shark. Thing cost me $700 but I think it's cool as hell. I hope it's a selling point later and maybe pays for itself...at least that's how I sold it to myself.

As for flower beds, there are none inside or out. The lawn just goes up to the outside of the enclosure.

It's an outdoor pool. That's a screen enclosure. We do have a heat pump extending the swimming year by a few months on either side but December, January, and February are still out.

Ah ok, I was thinking due to the reflection it was a glass enclosure.

And yeah, I really want that shark.

Sprinkle some salt around the edge of the walkway. It will deter/kill the worms or is that slugs, oh nevermind.
How about this, get a bass and put it in the pool.

Also, put some flypaper down around the outside of the rim. If you can catch the worms, you know where they're coming from. I also suspect they're from the yard, we frequently see them on the sidewalk outside. You might think of some kind of edging to keep them out.

worms in the water........you go in the water.......................sharks in the water. our shark.

They are probably attracted to the warmth of the heated pool. You could try installing a gravel bed and a raised walkway edge around the pool enclosure. Google says keep all vegetation at least 20 feet away from the pool.

I solved all my pool problems last summer, I sold it. It was kinda pricey, but the buyer liked the free house and grounds that came with.

This is a good idea. That way you can see where they are coming from, and then trace their source.

Yeah. The only thing better than a pool is a friendly neighbor with a pool.

John

Shark in the pool? Are you sure you're really not Dr. Evil?

Yeah. The only thing better than a pool is a friendly neighbor with a pool.

John

Does the neighbor ask you to sign a waiver when using their pool?

I agree no to sue should I can't an STD, parasitic organism, blindness, or any other condition associated with pools...

Nope, that's why we're friends.
