Wondering where it was today, I looked up the 1st Schweitzer 1-26 I flew.
N2726Z #245 I logged 3.5 hours in 6 flights back in Sept 1990 when I was getting my glider rating in Driggs, ID.

When I google that N-number I found this.

Accident Schweizer SGS 1-26A N2726Z, 01 Jul 1988
during a pleasure flight, the last transmission by the pilot stated he was going to see what the glider could do besides straight and level flight. witnesses in the area reported that ...

Apparently 2 years before it had a wing come off in flight and was totaled. I didn't see any record of it after that, so I am not sure how I flew it two years later?

Maybe someone with better Google Skills than I can add more information?

What does the FAA say about it? They might know s little more than stinkipedia. Just sayin.

I did find that the N number has been assigned to a different glider.
N2726Z Schneider Grunau Baby IIb 8001

But I have never flown a Grunau Baby.
didn't say when the N-number was assigned.

checking with the FAA, would probably shed some more light on the mystery. Not sure I am interested enough to put that much effort into it.

The registry shows that your glider had its registration cancelled on 09/27/1989! Mainly because it was destroyed the year before. Occam sez: it's most likely your log is wrong.

That is the "occam" explanation. I did enter it 6 times into my logbook, but I easily could have copied it wrong, but somehow still managed to enter a N-number that went with a SGS 1-26. Not that big of a leap, since many of them did have N27xxZ N-numbers.
