Years ago I used to contribute my hundred dollar hamburger findings to a website that allowed all pilots to have free access to that information.

Things change and now you and I have to pay for the information that was given for free.

So with that said, is there any other means of gathering such information for free on the internet?

Maybe I should create such a website and call it "Will Fly For Food".

www(dot)willflyforfood(dot)com

Nothing to stop you from posting on POA. The red board has a forum for this, as well. I agree, having to pay for access to a site where I provided information is annoying.

That is old news. That guy decided he owned all of your information and published a book with it and put the paywall afterwards. I'm sure that the site traffic is nowhere these days.

There are plenty of other sites.

I had the idea that flyspots would be a meta of all of them using the Google engine. Hey Jesse, write it for me?

Yeah, a lot of people got cheesed off on the website when the proponent promised t-shirts for contributors but then reneged on the deal.

Both of these sites could benefit from more active users. One example: The restaurant in New Braunfels that has been closed for, what, a year (?) was still listed as open on both of these sites. (I just submitted an update.)

Yeah, and the newest "Member story" is from 2009... a little depressing.

They all depend on active users to have current data. That's why putting in paywall like 100 and AirNav is a fatal move.

Angie's List is like that. You have to pay to see that the data that people had to pay to provide. I'll pass.

Angie's list is worse that that... unless they changed their ways, contractors could also pay to move themselves up the viewable list. Didn't change their scores on reviews, but people click on stuff at the top of lists...
