Pre-Flight
Hi All,
Have an IO-470N, in a BE35, with a MVP-50P. Typically, in cruise, I run 23 MP and 2300 RPM, and lean to about 12.5 gph, and cruise at 5500' to 6500'. Most of the time, the indicated HP% is between 67% to 73% depending on OAT.
However, recently I have had an issue with #6 EGT probe, which came loose, and initially was getting erratic readings and finally quit reading anything. All the other EGTs and CHTs, including the #6 CHT all read fine.
However, the indicated HP% is now a mere 39% ! But all else felt fine, flew smooth, got the same typical TAS and everything seemed fine... I think I would have noticed if the "real" HP reduced that much ? The scary thought that #6 wasn't even firing came to my mind, but the mag-checks were all fine. Engine runs smooth as always.
Just curious - how the MVP-50 calculates the %HP, I thought it was just based on FF ? and an approximation from that ? (Didn't find any reference to this in the manuals)
Thoughts?
