Anyone have experience w a 172RG? Looking for what is normal flight planning airspeed. MUCH OBLIGED

Realistically, about the same as a fixed-leg 182 (with wheel pants), mid-130s KTAS. It's a decent 2-person cross country plane.

I think its biggest attraction is the way it looks. It’s a sexy looking airplane. The increase in speed over the 180 hp fixed gear cardinal is probably not worth the advantage of speed. Consider the hassle of insurance and maintenance cost over the fixed gear model. Is is faster, though by at least 15 knots or so.

Ah yes, the 172 RG "Gutless." It kind of flew like a turd compared to a standard 172. Maybe it was faster. Didn't feel it.

So.... comparing to a 182 in speed, and less fuel. I'm sure it won't haul as much, but sounds like it fits my flying needs pretty well... don't fly much cross country, but you can at 135K... much obliged for the knowledgeable input here.

Have you run the insurance numbers yet? Or the cost of a cracked gear?
