Houston Bush Bird Kill

Mice are controlled by poison just about everywhere and essentially nobody cares.

Only you would think chasing birds into the air at a busy international airport would be a good idea. ;)

Put out a border collie and there won't be any birds. Those things will chase them tirelessly all day long. The birds give up eventually when they can't nest. This has worked at other airports.

As a pilot, I understand the need to control birds around an airport. I am okay with the idea of culling them.

As a guy who's owned numerous birds as pets, I am disturbed by the way in which these birds died.

I'm no fan of grackles. I love almost all birds, but I call grackles the roaches of the avian world. Even so, I don't wish them to die a suffering death.

I wonder what happens to the animal(s) that feed on these dead birds?

I agree. I'm certainly no PETA advocate by any means, but it did seem to be a particularly cruel death for many of these birds. I too don't want any bird strikes and understand the need to minimize the risk. But surely there are more humane ways to do it, aren't there?

I tend to agree.

I'm sure all the mice I caught in glue traps in years past suffered slow deaths, but I didn't lose any sleep over it. I eventually switched to electric traps, but not out of any concern over capital punishment to pests - they were simply less messy and easier to dispose of the dead mouse.

I've owned birds, too, but don't put pigeons in the same category. Pigeons are the rats and mice of the flying kingdom, so if they have to poison them to get rid of them, so be it. Still not gonna lose any sleep over it.
