@LongRoadBob......what can you tell me (us?) about Norway? the good, bad, ugly...... food, women, politics, life....... I think I saw in a recent cnn article that Norway is a booming tech region. I don't know much about the area, what can you share? thanks!

I have a oddly large number of Norwegian friends and can say that they are all very proud of their country, so whatever that means. Other than that... terrible dancers, great cooks (if you like freshly slaughtered lamb), fiercely loyal, can out-drink you and everyone else at the party - and still seem sober, strong women, and when they smile, you know it's sincere.

Definitely a country on the top of my To Visit list.

Norway.... isn't that the place "where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average"..??

Norway is a gorgeous place with a very long history. You can visit old wooden churches (stave kirke) over 1,000 years old. They know how to build things to last. The scenery is breathtaking. I've been there twice and look forward to going again. Sadly, liberal immigration policies are threatening their social stability like elsewhere around the world. But if anyone can sort it out, it's the Norwegians.

Hey, I just saw this now, I will try and get back to it, but right now am catching up on ground school and also preparing for my next flight.

Of course, as a non-Norwegian living here 25+ years I would have a different take on it, diff perspective...and mostly be wrong. It's a great place, with some flaws. The people are great except when not...etc. etc. Ido love it here. I hate learning flying in Norwegian, extra layer of complexity I reslly do not need but still it seems to be going ok.

Again, I'll try and get back here later to do a better job, but it's just one person takes on it.

@LongRoadBob - I'm going to Norway!!! Plane tickets to get there were cheaper than a couple hours buzzing around in my Cherokee, so figured why the hell not. I'll be in the country for 10 days. I'm going late May and the plan right now is to fly into Oslo, spend a night there, then take the train to Bergen (understand that's supposed to be one of the most majestic train rides in the world). Recommendations on what to do from there?

TAKE THE MONKEY!!!!

They have some very beautiful places, highly developed country, free medical care for all (after a $300 deductible), speak a different language, 5 million people and a LOT a north sea oil!

Don't forget your Viking helmet.

And yer gold card, tax on alcohol is quite high. $22 for a beer wasn't uncommon a few years ago.

According to a Norwegian friend and a quick google search, the average cost of a pint is region-dependent, but varies between $7-9 USD. Still expensive, but not that much higher than it is around here in MA.
