Help! 12 year old nephew Christmas?

[SkyDog58]

Think about it. For the rest of his life he’ll tell stories about his nutty rich aunt...

I didn't know @Rushie was rich.

Books: The Right Stuff

James Michener’s Space

The Martian (contemporary, fast-moving, and generally technically accurate; lots of f-bombs tho)

If into sci-fi at all, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy or 2312. Occasional adult situations.

I didn't know @Rushie was rich.

Of course she is.

Isn’t everyone on POA rich?

Must be, we are pilots.

I'm liking a lot of these ideas. Wish I could afford all of them.

He has birthdays and other events coming up. Make it part of a bigger thing you do. My nieces and nephews expect weird science stuff from me at this point. Experiment kits. Geodes to break,-small telescope- all depends on age to make it appropriate.

Okay, @Rushie , what did you finally decide to get the kid?

I bought this book and read it in three days. A 12 year old with a liking to airplanes and ginormous rockets might get a kick out of it. Not hard to read, for me, and I was in the "slow kids" classes at 12. I did have to search a bunch of what the vehicles and airplanes looked like. Took me down many google rabbit holes.

I got my 12 year old nephew a second hand foam RC Super Cub. He's gonna wreck it, so didn't want to buy him a new one yet. I think he'll get a kick out of it, and learn a bit about the ins and outs of flight.
