Have I got a job for you.

This is one of those “let’s hire bob”, but we have to follow the hiring practices so take his exact resume and make a job description out of it so that virtually nobody else is qualified.

I’ve had to do these in my line of work as well. I hate it.

The work life balance shtick was good for a chuckle too.

I checked the listing. I’m not willing to travel so… that’s me out.

I like how they publish a salary range....
I mean, the qualified applicant pool must be so small that a qualified person should be able to name their number

I think I might be a bit too old, though they didn’t mention age limits.

Basic Qualifications:
• No greater than 2 years outside of qualification on the U-2S Dragonlady.
• Current FAA Class I or II medical certificate.
• Suitable FAA Commercial Pilot (ME Land, Instrument Airplane) or Airline Transport Pilot certificate.
• Must be willing to travel and have a valid U.S. passport
• TOP SECRET security clearance
Desired Skills:
• 1,000 hours first pilot time.
• Graduate of a formal Test Pilot School.

Can I get a POA test pilot certificate so I can apply? Doesn’t say it needs to be an accredited test pilot school.

Sure, send all your money to the MC (care of @nauga) and we'll print one up fer ya.
Ours is more of an "informal" test pilot school in that we all wear polyester hawaiian shirts under our flights suits. That also means that in the event of a fire we will truly be flaming a******s.

Nauga,
who naturally has a story about accreditation.

Every once in a while SpaceX posts job openings for astronauts. Basically, if you're a current or previous NASA astronaut, you're hired.

Long time ago used to fly with a guy who always wore a hawaiian shirt over his flight suit. He was the chief pilot, so he made the rules.

This one of those listings that is required by law - they have someone or someones wired for this position.
I was thinking the same thing....

Reminds me of when I was just graduating with my engineering degree and zero experience...back in the dark ages before the internet.

I had a book from the school's placement office, probably an inch or more thick, full of company adds. Just a bunch of standing adds that companies maintened for no job in particular....but I didn't know that at the time. I remember one in it form the test pilot school at Patuxent. All the big iron aerospace companies had adds, many of them full page color magazine looking things. All sorts of other major corporations too.
All just boiler plate wording...looking for BSME grads, 0-3 years experience.... or some such thing. Send your resume to....

At that point I'd never set foot in a small aircraft at that point, but oh did I dream of flying... or working in and around aircraft....so yeah I sent a resume to Patuxent.
Next best thing would be to get a design engineering job working on aircraft... so yeah, I sent resumes to McDonnell Douglas and all the others
Eventually I figured out that those weren't real specific openings and I've felt a little bit like an idiot ever since.... Oh well, at least someone on the receiving end of those probably had a good laugh.

@Brad W I liked your post for everything but the last two sentences. You gotta shoot your shot, and sometimes you get a lucky hit. Chances are good you were far from the least qualified or even strangest submittal in the pile. I was convinced I got sympathy credit.

Nauga,
who got a very lucky hit
