I scare up the house pretty good every Halloween. Last year I dressed up in a Grim Reaper costume. I sat motionless on my porch leaning against the railing like a prop, with the hood pulled over my face so no one could tell if I was real or not. The kids would bound up to the house, take one look at me and stop dead. Some would slowly step forward and I'd make a lunge for them and they'd freak. :) Other little ones would turn back, but then I'd show my face and give them some candy. I don't want to scare the little ones too much. Great fun.

Tonight I will be dressed up as an Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

If that doesn't scare you - nothing will.

Several years ago, my stepson, a young teen at the time dressed up like the Grim Reaper, and sat motionless on our front porch. I gave him SPECIFIC intructions to not scare little kids. A little girl maybe five or six came on the porch dressed as a cute little fairy or something, and the first thing he does is scare the absolute heck out of her. The kid freaked, and the parents were not very happy. I apologized profusely, then let my stepson proceed with scaring people. :D

Get off my lawn!!! lol. :D

The best for us was years ago when our daughter was in junior high school. She was having a party at our house and had some amplified speakers up in the lattice work over the patio (in the dark, they couldn't be seen). Some sort of music being played on them.

I was out in my ham shack talking to someone on packet radio. 2 meter FM with digital messaging. Every time the transmitter would key or unkey there would be a thump from the speakers. Of course, the way it would go it was more like "thump, thump.......thump, thump". Like a heartbeat from the dark overhead.

A couple of her friends were out back, heard the sound and came screaming into the house. Scared out of their minds. Heather heard what the problem was and just cracked up. She'd heard it before, knew what was causing it and thought it was really funny. The only time an EMC problem actually had a positive benefit. :D

Watching Mummy movies on TCM between scaring kids at the door while threatening to tell them flying stories. You should see them run!

One of my theatre kids was having a hard time trying to figure out what to be for halloween.
I was about to tell her to go as a GA pilot and she could use my headset. That should terrify nearly everyone in the USA into having a heart attack. Before I could mention it, she decided to go as an automotive technician. That scared the crap out of me. I was so proud of her going as one of the most terrifying things I ever had the horrors of dealing with before I started doing all of my own maintenance and repairs a few centuries ago.

I never was able to keep these year-end "holidays" straight. I was greatly relieved when the movie "The Nightmare before Christmas" came out and confirmed to me that I wasn't alone in conflating them.

In those years in which Halloween falls two days before election day I get really really confused.

Good thing I remembered to buy candy yesterday...

I remembered to buy candy today at 5 pm. Target was nearly sold out of Halloween candy! I still bought too much; we only had about a dozen kids tonight.

I only had about a dozen kids too. I was expecting more because the weather is beautiful tonight. I never get too many kids though, because the houses are spread pretty far apart. Still, I've had more in the past.

Not a single ghost or goblin here. Pretty normal for our 'hood. The parents take the kids to "safe" events at schools and such, I believe.

No wonder kids are messed up nowadays. They can't experience halloween properly in a controlled environment. How are they supposed to be scared to no end and fear for their lives in a well lit safety enforced environment where absolutely nothing can happen to them? When we went trick or treating we didn't know if we were going to make it back alive or not...death by monster or true gut level instinctive terror. That kind of fear teaches you to run..and still be able to get more contraband without dropping your pumpkin.

Fear is a great motivator. Terror is a better one.

16th Halloween in this house. 1st time somebody has come by for Trick or Treat. High school girl collecting non-perishable food items for a food drive. She got candy, as well.

It's minus 1 F out tonight  So all the kids met up at one house in our little neighborhood. Kids rampaged, moms talked, dads drank beer. Perfect Halloween

This. We have ruined children in the name of safety.

Given that dec 25 = oct 31, I can understand the confusion.

We usually get about 40 kids, but this Halloween it was more like 65. I think the reason why is the neighboring community always has their trick-or-treating on the Sunday before Halloween, during the day (yes, the lamest trick-or-treating hours ever devised, sucking the fun right out the whole thing). But it rained. So, because last night was relatively warm and dry, I think they came over to my town where the sanctity of trick-or-treating in the dark on Halloween night is still respected :)

My dog was a crab for Halloween.
