Kinda looks as if forward motion had ceased. Too common. Way too common.Spun In?
One of the pilots in my CAP squadron had to make a forced landing at Fresno shortly after takeoff due to fuel starvation. This was caused by a fuel-line fitting that was apparently inadequately secured during recent maintenance. Fortunately, he was able to make it back to the runway. (To protect the innocent, I'll mention that the maintenance work was not done at Fresno.)Final Report for C177RG/N52156
NTSB PC: An improperly tightened B-nut fitting at the fuel flow divider, which resulted in a fuel leak and loss of engine power due to fuel starvation, and the inadequate maintenance inspection, which failed to detect and correct the discrepancy.

Just read the report - clipping the trees removed the horizontal stab and caused the plane to nose dive into the ground. That would dissipate a lot of energy and might cause a loss of control.
The shop f-ed up, but I guess the owner never looked under the cowling either. All the blue stains were clearly visible.NTSB PC: An improperly tightened B-nut fitting at the fuel flow divider,
Retired law enforcement here…that stuff drives me nuts. Just tell the press “We extend our condolences. As far as comments on how or why the accident ocurred, we’ll defer to the NTSB. Our role is to provide immediate emergency services, notify the venue agency, and then to step aside as they assume the lead. To that end, we will have no further comments.”"We full-heartedly believe Mr. Lund, having experienced some sort of emergency in his aircraft, did every courageous action that he could to avoid populated areas and roadways, and ultimately perished during the incident," said Lieutenant Brian Blakemore with Grass Valley police. "
They need to stop with this kind of reporting and even anyone from EMS making similar statements.
I always like to do a sniff test after shutdown. Sniffing for burned oil or fuel smells through the oil access or front cowling opening.Just read the report - clipping the trees removed the horizontal stab and caused the plane to nose dive into the ground.
