Now that I am done with regulations flashcards, the PTS and foggles I am looking for some materials aimed at IFR weather flying in light airplanes.

Not textbooks - but something scenario based and more of an easy read. Videos are great too.

I have two of the sporty's instrument flying dvd's - spring and winter weather http://www.sportys.com/PilotShop/product/13661

they are great, easy to watch and are an hour and a half each. I learned a lot from watching these - they follow richard collins along on actual flights and feature in-cockpit video which is a big plus. I'll probably wind up buying the summer and fall DVD's too.

The downside is that most of the flying is done in a FIKI P210 with weather radar and a stormscope.

I'm considering getting some of the sporty's air facts IFR dvd's. There are a ton of them - any recommendations?

I have a collection of probably 300 (yes, 300 different) videos that I bought on eBay over the past two years for well under $5 each on average. I have the Richard Collins weather series on VHS, two sets in fact as I bought one and then ended up with a second set as part of a package purchase. I highly recommend that you buy the ones you are missing. I prefer Sporty's to all the other videos for content. I like the Kings for test-prep cramming. Rod Machado videos are also very good and he has some on IFR.

Alfa, I'd encourage you to shop all the free on-line ASI seminars and 'real pilot' stories, as many of them incorporate (or are solely based around) real world scenarios. Nice touches is that ASI automatically maintains your transcript (for both completed in in-process) programs and auto-uploads these to your Wings transcript, if you've registered with Wings.

Safety Courses (some IFR-related) are here: http://www.aopa.org/asf/online_courses/
Real Pilot stories are here: http://www.aopa.org/asf/pilotstories/index.html

But there are other categories, as well.

Thanks. I've seen em all! Some good ones there for sure.

I think I registered with wings a while back. Need to check on that.

Thanks. Yes, I am a big fan of the AOPA presentations and have done a number of the courses.

The video collection is one of my ways of making up (catching up) for not flying for 34 years. Another is the 35 hours I have put in a friend's Luscombe in the last six weeks or so (see my post in the Flight Training forum). One is for knowledge, the other for skills.

Robert Buck's "Weather Flying". Easy read, scenario based with a lot of practical information about the behavior of fronts and such. Nice to have on the booksheblf, and available from Amazon.

Second that.

Thanks. I've seen that, and i've considered buying it. I'll try and pick up a used copy.

Also, if anyone has a title like this and is interested (permanently or temporarily) in swapping for the richard collins videos i'd be interested in working something out.

Can you use VHS?

Re used books, I have found it cheaper to get them though Amazon than eBay.

I can probably dig up a VHS set.. somewhere..

If you can watch VHS, we can work something out. The sets you are missing are four tapes and worth about $25 on eBay. If you have something you want to trade?? Or you can cover the shipping both ways and we can work out a loan.

Don't throw those foggles away just yet. :D I just did an IPC after work and it was foggles city for me. Best VFR weather we've had in months, so out they came.
