Got the green light!!

Yeah, why would anybody want a wing to provide shade and comfort while airborne and allow step-in boarding from both sides?
Yes, I guess it's more of a want than a need. Trying to take care of this hip and bum knee. I know, shedding more lbs would help even more.

I don't think Mary likes the high wing and I'm not real fond of them either but......it never hurts to investigate all possibilities.

How about a Socata TB-20? Has good speed and a wide cockpit. Seems to be a lot better priced than some of the other "Fast" airplanes. Just a thought.

Cheers

Also the SR20, though it really is just -at- 150 kts. Move up to the SR22 and you'll be in a 3.5 mile-per-minute airplane.
Said he doesn't like glass.

Plently of "old" ones around. I think 2003 or older...should be a steal of a deal. I know someone with one but doubt she'll part with it even if it's time to repack the 'chute.

If considering an SR20, I'd suggest looking closely at real useful loads/payloads. Nothing personal, but IIRC, neither Gary nor his wife meet the FAA's "average" passenger weights, and the SR20 might not allow much baggage with full fuel, nor the use of the back seats by people. I believe the SR22 has significantly greater payload capacity, although still not really a true 4-seater unless you short-fuel.

The SR22 does have a large fuel capacity (I think something like 90 gals), so it might be the better choice.

Yikes Ron.....thats dangerous living making that comment about my Bride. I'm the fat arse, she's shedding lbs with all the health issues.

Anyway.....we have been looking at so many ad's. I'm even looking at Bellanca Super Vikings, seems to be the best bang for the buck. I just don't want to do the piper roll into the left seat.

Exploring the Socata TB-20, Beech Deb's and a few others. For the limited "distance travel" we do every year I'm not sure it's worth the change right now. We use the Sundowner for the beach runs and it fits the mission. The speed for distance missions will be closer to retirement in 5 years, back and forth to florida.

The search continues, no rush, I would have to sell the sundowner first before anything finds a new home with us. I really don't miss all the plane ad's and making calls for more info, what a PITA all that was the first time around.

I am working a potential partnership on a Cirrus but will have issues on retirement in 5 years or so on moving the aircraft. Mary and I would rather be in this ourselves like we are now with the Sundowner.

The discussion continues at home....and at least Mary is still looking at planes with me.

Good -- now you do the same, if you know what's good for you (and that's a medical consideration, not a threat :wink2:).

...which is why I raised the 2-door issue.

I think you might consider the turbo Cirrus. As you know, there is lots of room, and with the fuel capacity, you can decide to fly far lightly loaded, or fly medium trips with a bigger load.

Just go ahead and take this time to move up to a PA46-310P. I did the pre-buy on a 1985 model that sold for 200K. Prices are really low now and I have 3 kids in college that need your support too.

3.5 miles per minute = 210 KTAS. Not gonna get even close to that out of an SR22 unless you go turbo... And with the turbo, you'll only get that if you flog the engine at 85% in cruise. :yikes:

I did mean the turbo. I realize now I left that out.

 Ok, I hate to say this and I know most pilots on here will renounce any involvement with me after I type this out but………:dunno:

Mary and I have been pouring over ad’s and web pages, and honestly, I like what I’m flying. Let me qualify that by adding I like what I’m flying for the mission I’m flying. Right now its beach runs, every weekend, 45-50 minute flight to beat the 2.5 hour drive in no traffic. With seasonal traffic the drive can easily make three hours.

I know my plane, its maintenance and I am comfortable flying it. It has good P&I and with the WAAS upgrade to the 530 it will keep on providing a good IFR platform.

With my Brides health issues and the loss of her additional income I just can’t justify more $$ for an initial purchase, more $$ for maintenance on a retract and working out the bugs in a new to me plane for speed only. I guess Mary and I have decided that until I retire we will continue to fly 08Romeo. Once we say goodbye to the working world we’ll sell the Motorhome along with 08Romeo and buy some wings with speed to enjoy our snowbird get-aways each year to warm destinations.

So for now…I put the trade-a-plane rags, along with the multiple plane porn web pages aside. The thrill of the hunt was fun but somewhat exhausting. The thought of selling my first plane in a soft market and starting over from maintenance square one just beat me down. :mad2:

gary quit being so logical...we're talking about buying an airplane here!

It's hell when the numbers won't tell you what you'd like to believe, even after you torture them unmercifully. Especially after you've visualized yourself pulling up to the ramp in your newly-acquired big-honker and asking the kid for a hand with the bags while peeling off a big tip. Oh well, such is life. Some soar with eagles, some are destined to pick shlt with the chickens. Welcome to the roost.

 Yeah......that about sums it up.

Gosh, Gary- you looked at alternatives and decided that you are happy with what you've got? I say, "Raise a glass, cheers!"

So much better to be in something you like, are comfortable with and know well. And by the way, it is not like you're flying a penalty box! The Mouse and its derivatives are great, solid, stable and ROOMY!

Sometimes it's better to leave with the gal you brought to the dance. :wink2:
