Well, after 18 plus hours flying in the last week and 2000 miles my lovely Bride said "baby, we need a faster plane". Who am I to argue witht that!

I guess its time to renew the search for a Bo!

Comanche, you mean.

Hey, I know where one is for sale.

I'm happy with my old Bo so far, traded up from a Cherokee 150. Jesse and I covered some real estate in it a couple of weeks ago... Missoula, MT to Savannah GA. I think we logged 11.5 hrs. Not bad for an old bird. There are some good Bonanza's out there for sale right now, good time to buy.

Does she have a sister!

Congratulations, you are a lucky man!

lol....no sisters.

Just checked out your blog and added a link to my favorites on my flight journal. I work out of ILG at times, so if you're at Dassault on occasion drop me a PM for a lunch run.

That sounds good. I'll definitely do that! Thanks Gary!

PS I'll return the favor on the link.

Take a look at RV's. 200 MPH should get her attention, low stall speeds and exceptional flight characteristics should get yours. You can do the work yourself legally, parts are 1/3rd of the price, and you can burn mogas.

Andrew (FlyersFan) is a bit luckier. His wife keeps saying he needs a faster plane, and she keeps buying them. Showed up to Wings in a Meridian.

Gary, jump on making the move! A friend of mine has a 1976 V35B (not for sale). What a fantastic airplane. Of course his panel is worth about twice my Tiger's value, but it is a wonderful flying airplane.

Don't let the v-tail stop you. They are solid planes.

Excellent! All the fun of shopping for a new plane!

Gary

IIRC, Gary really likes having (maybe "needs") separate doors for pilot/passenger. Don't think you get that with a Comanche or a Bonanza (other than the back of a BE36). Might need to be a 182RG to get the speed of a retractable and doors on both sides up front.

Yes, I guess it's more of a want than a need. Trying to take care of this hip and bum knee. I know, shedding more lbs would help even more.

I don't think Mary likes the high wing and I'm not real fond of them either but......it never hurts to investigate all possibilities.

OK, so what's out there with 150-knot or better speed (that about right?), two front doors, and a low wing?

I think we need to stay within Gary's ASEL rating, which leaves out all but the first.
No, both the DA-50 and C-4 are SEL. I left off the DA-40 because it isn't 150Kt. You're right, the DA-42 is AMEL, but heck, it gives him something to aspire to!

why does the DA-50 require a type rating?

btw I would just get a 182RG.

Gary -- You need to take your wife up in someone's plane that is a turbo where you'll need oxygen. By the end of that flight, you might be approved for something with pressurization! :)

OK, but it needs a type rating.
Why a type rating? HP endorsement, sure; it has a Teledyne Continental TSIOF-550J and max gross of 3,560 lbs.
Sorry, I thought you were talking about a Citation IV. Didn't know "C-4" was anything else but an explosive. IIRC, all Flight Design planes are prefixed "FD," e.g., the Flight Design CTsw is listed as "FDCT."
Their site lists this as the "C4" (no dash, my mistake). I think it's a horrible name, personally, for the very reason you allude to!

Yeah great then I'll need a second job and have NO time to fly

Thanks all....but twins are out. I need to be able to pay for maintenance!

DA40's to small and tight for my fat arse.......and I hate that stick, not impressed with all the glass either.

You might want to go with a Saratoga or Lance. They're reasonably fast, and they are nice and wide. The SR20 and SR22 are very wide, too.

Heh. Karen has lamented once or twice about the Skylane's speed, but that didn't necessarily correlate to "buy something faster". Careful your assumptions here. Heh. ;)

Commander 114?

Sat in one, but never flew one. Very comfy, two doors, low wing, 157kts cruise (I think). Looks cool.

Also the SR20, though it really is just -at- 150 kts. Move up to the SR22 and you'll be in a 3.5 mile-per-minute airplane.
