Baron just finished the annual and needs to fly and it just so happens that I have tomorrow off. Looking for a good airport cafe within 200 nm of Norfolk (ORF). Right now I'm thinking of either South Jersey (VAY) or Shenandoah (SHD). Any other recommendations?

That is a GREAT website! Thanks for sharing!

BTW, I recommend Howards Pub at Ocracoke. A little bit of a walk but call them and they will come get you.

Better double check before going anywhere though. I just searched a 200nm ring around my home airport and there were 4 (that I know of) restaurants that have been closed for quite a while. In the case of the "Landings Cafe" at Turkey Mountain...probably 7 years. There's a note in the comments section stating it's closed. Look closely.

Not very up-to-date data.

You might try cape may NJ ,they have a navy museum of sorts on field. Self serve gas.

26N. Ocean City, NJ. The airport is literally a block away from the town. Lots of restaurants and shopping

Chester County KQMS has a decent restaurant. Amelia's at Georgetown is not bad as well (KGED).

+1 on Howard's Pub!!!!!

Pik n Pig at 5nc3, highly recommended bbq.
Kay's at Cambridge, cge
Kentomorr 3w3 land on grass, walk to seafood on the water <--nix that for a Baron
Smoketown PA S37

As well as Howard's and OCNJ (26n is about 3/4 mile from anything decent on the boardwalk, although there is a cafe at the airport)

Beautiful day...enjoy the flight!

Call Howards in the blind on CTAF when you join the pattern and ask for a pickup. They know how long it takes to land and tie down - they'll arrive in the super golf cart about the time you finish the tiedown.

Thats always a good one. Go into the air conditioned pilot's shack and call them on the phone, number is listed. They'll pick you up and take you to the restaurant. From there you can do a 2 hour golf cart rental and tour around.

This time of year its not terribly hot on Ocracoke. It might be 90 on the mainland but the water temp is cool enough it keeps the temps down on the island.

Glad I noticed this thread..headed to Newport News in a few hours and trying to figure out what to do this weekend.

Howard's seems like the answer for a lunch tmrw.

Thanks guys.

Lots of expensive, little artsy craft and jewelry shops on Ocracoke (if you have a passenger that's into that sort of thing).

The Airport Diner is pretty good, and you can walk to the beach.

I should have taken your advice Tim! I narrowed it down to MIV and MTV. Weather was a bit nicer toward Blue Ridge so I went that way. The airport cafe there had recent reviews so I figured it was safe....turns out the operator ran off and the place **** down a little over a week ago. So, I had a good day of flying, but no food.

Next time come on up to GED :). Cheap fuel, good food, and you get .23c a gal back from the state

Unless I'm going there anyway, I've gotten into the habit of calling the restaurant or the FBO to confirm hours, etc. because so many airport eateries have non standard hours and closed days. Nothing worse than showing up to Pik n Pig on a Monday, or Kay's at Cambridge on a Wednesday...boo!

Was great. J was sleeping so a friend went with me and we are at the restaurant. Great day to fly and a great destination

Thanks, I bookmarked that one! Someone mentioned the site having old info, it's always a good idea to call any airport restaurant in advance, they seem to close with some regularity and/or have odd hours and days of operation!

So fearless, where did you end up going ,and how was it?
