I put my instrument rating to work these last few days. 4 approaches, 4 landings. That last one was absolutely down to minimums. When I got set up for the approach, the AWOS was reading 500 and 1 1/2. I had some time once I got every thing set up and just waiting to intercept the glide slope, checked again and the ceiling was down to 300 feet. I think in the future I will really like to see 500 and 1 1/2 or better before attempting an approach.

Having the stratus ADS-B was a huge help. On my return yesterday I could see the weather was really deteriorating and my filed alternate (FAY) had gone down to LIFR. So had everything to the south. There is really no substitute for having a real-time weather map in flight. I talked to jacksonville flight service but they were not much help. I wound up stopping at LRO to go ahead and top off with fuel and take some time to check weather and make sure I could get a decent alternate. In the end I landed with 4 hours of fuel and several nearby airports that were above alternate minimums.

Visited Kennedy Space Center while I was down there. The Saturn V was impressive

Did you see either of the two Swifts that hangar at LRO while you were there?

Good job, like to have a little higher ceiling when doing practice approaches. Only go to minimums if I get caught in deteriorating weather.

No, but I heard all about them. Nice guys at the FBO there. Filled up my plane in the pouring rain. And actually knew how the weird fuel system worked on the swift. I will definitely log in to airnav this week and give them a good comment
