My now-retired 777 pilot friend shared double good news yesterday... he's earned his CFI-G... and he went in with 5 other guys at the Denver club they're part of, and bought an ASH-25.

I'm seeing a trip to Denver in my future... and my first glider ride! What a beautiful machine. He's headed with the guys to California next week, to get some dual in another state side ASH-25. Apparently there's not a lot of them over here?

Very very cool! For the glider guys...how does a self-launch glider like that qualify for the various badges? Does the barograph some how have to show that the engine was off when you made your qualifying altitude/distance?

IGC approved GPS recorders include noise sensors that can tell when the engine is running and when it is not. when the engine goes off that is like tow release in a pure glider and when the engine comes back on that is like landing in a pure glider.

I see 9 ASH25's on the US registry. I'm not sure there are really a lot of these anywhere.

I can't imagine those being cheap. If I was going to get into gliding I would want something like that. 60:1

Wow Troy that thing is an E-Ticket ride! Have fun, and BTW you suck :D

208,000ish according to google. That price is from 2008 too, not sure if it is up to date. add on a little extra for a trailer, top of the line instruments and a ride in a shipping container across the atlantic and i bet you will be pushing 250K

Also those prices are usually for just the bare bones glider. Trailer, instruments, air in the tires are extra.

Friend of mine brought his Nimbus 4 (another ~60:1 glider) to town and flew with for a couple days. From 2000 ft AGL he was with in gliding range of something like 15 airports.

Our course there is the problem of 90+ foot wing spans runways that are only 75ft wide or less.

A truly amazing machine. I would love a chance to fly one....with the motor OFF.

Schleicher makes a great product, allways has.

Hmm I wonder if I could bolt those wings to my Ka-6 ;)

would a Ka-6 with ASH 25 wings still qualify as Vintage? hmm....

We have no runway light obstructions on our 3500x60 paved runway. Pleanty of room. Just watch out for the FAA mandatory runway hold back signs.
